Decisions about Surgery
Hi - I'm facing a mastectomy following 6 months of chemo treatment and although treatment is now only weeks from finishing I'm still having trouble deciding on what type of reconstruction to have, if any. It will most likely be a 2 stage reconstruction with expander and implant as my options are limited but I'd love to…

Scalp Cooling during Chemo?
Hi, I am starting Chemo on Friday and l was asked if l wanted to try Scalp cooling, l had never heard of it. I would love to hear others experiences. How uncomfortable it is? Does it really help with hair loss? How short should your hair be to be able to wear the cap? I have an information session on Tuesday at the…

Test results :( yet another curve ball
OK got test results from surgery today and am feeling hmmm, well, gutted.Grade 2, 1.6cm in size bigger than we thought it would be and low grade pre-cancer margin around it. Back to surgery Sept 13 as the margin was too close. Chemo was discussed but fortunately i have dodged that bullet. Tamoxifen will be started at some…

Surgical induced menopause and hot flushes
Hi All, I had a lumpectomy in March followed by radiation therapy. At 53 I still had fully functioning ovaries with no signs of menopause so I had the choice of medical or surgical induction of menopause. I choose surgical as I'm one of those people who manages to suffer the side effects of all drugs. Since having my…

It took months to finally be diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancerening
Although this happened nearly two years ago I wish to share my distressing experience so others will be more aware if in the same situation. It was late 2014 when I felt a hardening behind my left nipple. fearing cancer (I had early breast cancer in same breast in 2006) I went to my GP who sent me for an X-ray. Results was…

Worried
Hi I was on here a few months ago waiting to get in and see a breast doctor at the gold coast. Well I saw them and did a sample of my nipple discharge which they said had no cancer cells. So they told me to keep a eye on it. Anyway a few weeks later I was due for my mammogram and I told them what was going on so that came…

My philosophical ponderings on percentages.
How meaningful is two or three percent? Well, I guess what it's a percentage of. A 2-3% discount on a $20.00 pair of sandals would be 40cents - 60cents....not really worth the bother of quibbling at the till. If, however, one was talking about 2-3% of children at a local primary school with a student count of 1000 kids,…
