Smart birdbrains!1

Not quite in my garden, but under my carport: A couple of Willy Wagtails have made a beautiful nest and laid three eggs! They have been around for a few years; last year nesting in a nectarine tree, and are quite unafraid of us. They go berserk when a Crow or Currawong approach the nearby birdwater bowl, dive bombing and pulling at tail or head feathers. The eggs were laid about 8 days ago. I read that incubation is 14 days, so perhaps we'll see the baby birds at the end of this week. Best wishes to you all in your gardens and on your walks.6

@jennyss
Now that is clever. Under your carport they are safe from bigger birds.
Last year, a pair of willy wagtails nested in one of our poinciana trees quite low, at eye height. They trusted us so much that there was no problem peeking in the nest and watching the babes grow.
Unfortunately just before the babes were due to leave the nest a Channel Bill raided and both babies were gone. It was heart breaking.
This year the parents have wised up and made a nest under the eaves of the shed. The overhanging eaves prevent any marauding bird from access.2 -
Hi @kmakm and @Annie C Yes It was me. Willy wagtails are the teller of secrets. Hope all good with you both. Haven't been on here for a while. Up to 3 full days work a week and contemplating a 4th at the end of this month. It's definitely a struggle with the fatigue is the biggest hurdle like many on this site. life is not the same but blessed I'm still here for sure. A big Hi to all on this site who I have got to know this last year will be popping in from time to time. Hugs xox2

We live at the edge of a rural village. The front yard is not fenced, and this hungry kangaroo was hoping for some green grass near the house this morning. You can see the roo poo! On our north verandah I am watering some pots including these petunias and lemonade tree with shower and washing water. Here's hoping we will get some rain later this week. Maybe even enough to put some fires out. Best wishes to all from Western NSW.

Hello All
@Blossom1961
I am a little bit green with envy of your citrus tree and petunias. I have murdered every citrus tree that I have planted. After 6 I have given up. Cheaper to buy lemons. Petunias I can grow, but in our dry season they tend to be straggly and sparse on flowers.
Ah rain! We either have too much of it or not enough. Our wet season has started magically well and my thoughts are with those of you who have not enough rain.
Since the beginning of our 'Wet' (November) we have exceeded last year's poor performance. The result - the weeds are green as, the aquifer has been replenished, our bore is happy and our water supply is assured!
Our best downfall arrived on Christmas Eve when a thunderstorm rolled up at 6 pm and brought with it thunder, lightening and a torrential downpour that stayed around until just before midnight.
The rain was welcomed but the lightening was not. At 6:10 pm a lightening bolt took out the town's main transformer in the powerhouse yard. Fried it. One smoking, twisted, mangled mess.
A new transformer was bought up from Broome (220 kms) by a truckie who answered the urgent call from our power maintenance crew, made space on his truck and arrived at midnight in town.
Midnight Mass at our little local church was held by candlelight which added to the mysticalness of the liturgy. Just as the mass was finishing and the Good Father was giving the blessing, power was restored to our little town. There was much clapping and cheering from the congregation and I got the impression that Father Victor thought that he had something to do with it!
Life in the Kimberley in the Wet Season can be interesting.

@Blossom1961 and @jennyss
Blossom you can take all the credit and jennyss I give you my apologies.
Ah damn just goes to show that either I am losing it or more to the point have lost it. I have decided that I am not going to look for it, I quite like my life as it now is.
Now, who am I again???5 -
Ah Annie. At least you had it to lose. My girls say I never had it to begin with.4
