@arpie 😂
When we were at uni, my sister’s then boyfriend had to separate us during a fight..👀😆. And it didn’t stop there.When my mum found out about our latest fight last year (all 3 sisters this time) she pulled at her hair and screamed at us ‘You fought when you were little and still fighting!! What’s wrong with you??’ I said I don’t know, you raised us 🤷🏼♀️😄. So we’re having a break from each other now. It’s been very peaceful 😄2 -
FABULOUS DARLING.
I love Chrissie, always have, always will. Having married into a large family who are crazy Christmas ravers, I'm in my element. After 3 husbands who always viewed Christmas as Bah humbug, I now have a Bad Boy who loves giving presents and is like a kid getting them. After lunch we retire haha up to the lounge where a zillion presents await. Then my sister in law and her cousin pass hand out everyone's presents, and then there is this unholy eruption of paper flying, ooohs and aaaaas, thank yous galore, and on it goes. FABULOUS DARLING6 -
After a year long treatment regime for BC I thought I wouldn't do my usual and annual baking of Christmas Cakes ...was feeling a bit (a lot) tired etc ..like some of us here....
- I give the cakes as presents to people (as everyone has a lot of everything these days!) and certain people know they are on my Xmas list! Needless to say I felt (within myself) a lot of pressure to keep delivering them ( I also baked through COVID and chemo so I would HAVE to focus on something other than myself and the terrible side-effects)....
And I actually, in regard to the Xmas baking ritual, said to my husband that I wasn't feeling motivated...but one incredible day recently the enthusiasm returned and with a new found resource of energy I ventured into Coles etc and bought ingredients ! Who knew I thought - there is still a bit of the old girl in me! Anyway I baked 26 of the darlings and am now distributing them...this is the onerous part of the process as there is SO much wrapping etc...everyone can relate I am sure!
The point of all this is that I have found that when giving the cake to someone there is a spreading/imparting/transference of joy and love on some level....and I find that part therapeutic/helpful in some way ...and I don't mean to sound selfish or too deep.
I also felt that when I read the Christmas funnies posted on this network recently and those from previous years...the sentiments expressed or the hilarity of the joke just lifts my mood for a bit ..and so exponentially I started to feel optimistic going forward perhaps.....this may be a justification on my part for immersing myself in baking and reading activity ! LOL!
I think this festive time brings up a lot of stuff for us all and we are all in various stages of this journey...but distracting ourselves may have benefits...anyone else do mind tricks (exercise, hobbies, anything) to get through? I find I need more and more discipline to keep my mind on a positive plateau. Family get togethers can help (sometimes). I note for some that being in touch with nature helps...being on the water, tracking up the mountains , creative pursuits etc. Anyway didn't expect my post to go in this direction (sorry for the ramble!) ...Was so interested in reading the individual approaches to Xmas, belief systems etc . Everyone here is so supportive and thank you to the wise people here who helped explain some trickier parts of treatment in ways doctors don't - and for all the tips..so invaluable!!
Merry Christmas everyone xxxx6 -
Do you have a photo of your cakes. Are they little individual ones. Fruit is expensive0

My festive preparations are exceedingly limited but I usually make a Christmas cake, possibly the only cake I make all year. I have in the past made miniature ones for staff presents. This year I have made two large cakes! I will share them with family, lots of fruit - I am a fan of figgy fruit cake as well as figgy pudding, plus dates and prunes!

@Afraser same, I love fig sweets, as well as dates and prunes 😋😋.Have you tried figs in syrup? It’s this Eastern European delicacy, they take whole fruit and leave it in a syrup made of lots of sugar. Not very healthy 😆, but best thing I’ve tried. The fig one is my absolute favourite 🤤😊2

@FLClover
I know the dish, but too sweet for me. I have two fig trees and like them best straight off the tree! Nearly all the recipes for preserving figs use kilos of sugar! I am going to try drying my own next season, as it’s so short and it’s a bit of a race between me and the birds!

Yes I do. here they are Locksley et al - just two of them though! I buy the fruit in bulk - it's my annual thing I do xx4
