I rescued an old wooden bowl from my shed and turned it into a yarn bowl 😊 hoping to do the same to some wooden bowls I found cheap at Spotlight!7

Some months ago, a very dear friend of over 30 years presented me with a bag of "scraps" and asked me to create a quilt for her. She left the colours and design as my decision.
Oh dear. I was reluctant to start. Her only stipulation was that I use a piece of each scrap as she wanted a "Memories" quilt.
The fabrics were beautiful cotton scraps left over from clothes she had made for her own children when they were little, the grandchildren's clothes, tablecloths and table mats.
Once I had sorted the fabrics into colourways, a design began to take shape. I added two background fabrics of my own (the pindan colour and the cream) to create a memory of me.
Sadly, my friend is leaving town next year to live down south, after having been born and bred in the Kimberley and spending her 70 odd years here.
Here is the end result.
A close up of one of the blocks and the quilt backing. Each completed block is six inches. The quilt is mounted on my long arm quilting frame. The cream squares are quilted in a meandering free motion stitch. That was the easy part. Once that was completed I used my overworked and overused domestic sewing machine to quilt each cream triangle in the border a quarter inch apart.
I worked on the quilt most days from early May and put the last stitch in the quilt in mid December. It was a joy to create and stitch. I lose myself in quilting - my problems are far over the horizon.

@Dory65
Thankyou. I am one of those hyper perfectionist type people. Rarely am I pleased with my quilts, however this time I am.
My friend was in tears when I gave it to her just before Christmas, as I will be when she and her husband leave next year. Both very good friends for over 30 years.

That’s a magnificent quilt - beautifully designed and balanced, in addition to the meaning that the fabrics have for its owner. What a priceless gift.5

Truly a work of love...so beautifully and creatively assembled. I unfortunately can't use my sewing machine anymore due to my peripheral neuropathy...can't feel the pedal or control it, but I can still knit. I've made a few memory square blankets using the mitred square technique, and each is from leftover yarn from other work. This type of hand craft is more than mere stitches on cloth or with yarn, it's weaving memories, love, commitment and so much more. I salute you.4

Dear @Annie C,
Congratulations - What a beautiful quilt - I can imagine how thrilled your friend is, very special. I can get lost in the different patterns and waves of colour. I think I found the close-up block around the top or bottom edge. The border is beautiful too. Could you post another photo showing the quilting?2 -
