I have stopped taking my melatonin for the past few days and find it makes no difference. Stayed up later last night and had a better sleep. Temazepam is the only thing that works and I refuse to take that more than once a week.

@Sister the staying up later thing can be a struggle but if I can get to at least 10 or 11 then I get a much better 6-7 hours sleep.

@Kiwi Angel,  The sleeping thing is a bitch isn't it?  On a good note it does seem to get better over time.  I would say around the 10 month mark.  I only have a couple of nights a week now that are a bit yuk.  I do wake up off an on, normally due to getting overheated or my back, not that lying there staring at the ceiling for no reason feeling.

If it's really bad I'll take a couple of mersyndol as the codeine seems to work really well for me.  Probably only need it once a week now.

I went on my first garden tour today (yep, I'm officially middle aged...) and I wanted to be fresh for it. So I took two Temazepam. It worked. I only woke up once instead of my usual 3 - 5 times.

@Kiwi Angel My GP told me that they're not sleeping tablets as such. More that they work to reset sleep patterns that have been disturbed. They assist in resetting your sleep cycles. Once you've taken them for a period of time, you're re-regulated and they will no longer be needed or especially effective. K xox

@kmakm did read that shift workers use them a lot. Took a temazepam last night so I got a good sleep and managed to get up and do my 5km run again  :)

Haven't posted for a while.....internet problems. we went to mission beach for a weeks holiday last week. I slept so well, listening to the waves and I slept all night. Got home, and haven't slept a full night. I think it is  because when I'm on holiday or away from home, I know I haven't got doctors appointments or nurse visits and I can pretend I'm a normal 53 yr old. the flight was hard cos of my back but worth it. staying positive and I have already started research on my next holiday, to the Barossa valley. Hopefully I will be lurking around the site a bit more if the internet plays nice lol xxx
