Today's feelings in poetry
Lucky
So lucky, people say.
That they caught it when they did
That it hasn’t spread
That they got it all
That I have insurance
So, so lucky.
That my friend told me about...
About sums it up for a lot of us. I know others are not as lucky, but then there’s others who are luckier. Everything is relative and I don’t think we can or should compare. I think we should be able to voice when we don’t feel ok, and when it gets a bit too much from ptsd, long-lasting bad side effects, fatigue, uncertainty etc, even if we might look ok from the outside and things seem to be going well. A struggle is a struggle and very uncomfortable, so let’s normalise being able to say guilt-free that on some days, I’m not ok.

When going through a difficult patch of breast cancer treatment while supporting my Father through palliative care, a neighbour asked “how things were going.” I replied, “it could always be worse.”
Unexpectedly she replied “it could always be better!”
I laughed and laughed. 😂 That comment really was a tonic.
