BCNA's Helpline refocus - some changes being made to the Helpline
Comments

The member support officer will most likely be on a Call Centre low rate of pay, more bang for their buck to employ people with customer service experience. Another busy day at the Call Centre, at least it is staying in Australia and not going off shore. Can't wait for what happens next................... smh1

When BCNA tried to change the magazine title from The Beacon to Pink Lady (yep, as in sanitary bins !) there was an outcry which ended in a member survey and the title being left alone:
https://onlinenetwork.bcna.org.au/discussion/17867/disappointed-in-the-beacons-name-change/p18
Perhaps BCNA should have done a proper full member survey re the helpline changes - and have it at the top as a separate post with the survey link ?3 -
Probably some over zealous people came up with the "unique" idea of naming it Pink Lady, and not realizing there was a sanitary bin company named Pink Lady. Good reason to have lots of input and being informed before trying to make these stupid types of decisions. Some things we learn through a text book, but some also from life experience as well.1

@Emma17 or difficult, distracting or inconvenient? Is it incorrect, or a question asking for more information?
Yeah, we all need to be mindful that some of the stuff that comes off our keyboards may not be in the best taste. Might not be nice. We need to be nice, being ladies and all.
Questions about moderation are a distraction ATM. Delicious as they may be.
The guts of it is, do we think a qualified breast care nurse if a justifiable expense for BCNA?

@Zoffiel I'm going off-topic but couldn't resist a dig at the cultural expectation that we act as ladies.
The Pink Sector is a vortex that sucks in a woman at diagnosis whether she likes it or not. I don't like pink. Before breast cancer, I was a woman. Once diagnosed I was no longer a woman but a 'lady', referred to as such even in doctors' letters. I ain't a lady!
If you're counting votes, YES, one of the most justifiable expenses for the pre-eminent breast cancer support non-profit is that for a specialised breast cancer nurse. This is my final post for this Discussion.3 -
Hi everyone
I am very happy to set up a zoom meeting for everyone to meet with me directly. I am currently on leave but will be back on Monday. I will set up a link and send it out for 29 July Thursday 6-8pm to help with working hours.
For those of you who have already set up phone calls with me - I am also really happy for these to go ahead, please just let me know.

Awesome, Thank you @Kirsten_BCNA - I think that would be the most efficient way of doing it - and if it could be recorded as well .... then others can 'see it' afterwards if they are unable to join Zoom on the night and/or still contact you if they are unable to do zoom. I know how tricky it can be, getting a good signal for it for the whole session.

Hi my other suggestion is that for those who may wish to attend but don’t have a computer is it possible for them to dial in on a phone no?
im not sure that is possible with zoom or not.
I will definitely be in attendance.

Hi @Kirsten_BCNA,
thank you for the comment,
unfortunately for 2 reasons, I am not zoom savvy but more importantly on that day at 3.50pm I have an appointment with my oncologist who is 2 and a half hours away from where I live, I just would not be home in time and even if I was have no idea how to zoom, may I talk with you at a pre arranged time at your convenience,
wendy552 -
HI @wendy55 very happy to chat earlier - I will touch base on Monday to look at a time.
@Julez1958 there will be a phone call that you will be able to call for the meeting1 -
Will you be putting an agenda out for the zoom meeting @Kirsten_BCNA so ladies can be prepared and/or follow ?
Is there likely to be true consideration given to reverting back to what has been lost or is the zoom meeting simply to ease the current undertones on the site (i.e. a good old promotional activity ?).
Can you please pop this conversation into the Announcements at the top of the site so those who don't check in too often can see it and be part of the discussion. Thanks.4 -
As I will be another person excluded from this Zoom thing, could someone please answer my previously asked question? It was stated that "Trained Expert Cancer Staff" would be available on the phone to assist callers, rather than Trained Registered Nurses. Who are these "Experts"...where did they train...In what were they trained and how long did this training take? Is the training course some in house program where the experts are given a short course on all the cancer language they'll come across, as well as a course on how to follow a flow chart as well as a list of medical persons to whom callers can be "onboarded". or am I just being "difficult"?5

As many of you would realise, my bubble buddy has been away and libraries have been closed so I have not had any computer access so it may take me a while to catch up on posts. Apologies to anyone who has missed out on support from me. I would like to add my name to the growing list of concerned members who have raised the issues with these BCNA changes. I fully support what has been said by arpie and others As AllyJay says, what training do the expert call takers have ? Members need to be confident in the person they speak to when reaching for help. I, too, am disgusted that BCNA did not raise this with all members for their input and sincerely hope the forthcoming communications are not just an exercise to shut us up2

@Julez1958 - a few will be phoning in, but my experience with people phoning is was very hit & miss when I was doing heaps of Zoom last year ..... tho they may have 'fixed that' by now, as I am sure it affected a LOT of people over the last 18 months! Look forward to 'seeing' you in the chat.
@June1952 - I will definitely be requesting the restitution of at least the Specialist Cancer Nurse asap - and the timely restoration of the Mets Counsellor (keeping in mind that this was a fully funded Off Site Service.)
@AllyJay - that is definitely one of the questions that I will be raising, as it is of great concern to me ... with specialised knowledge being required to help our fragile members who may be in a deep depression ...
@BlackWidow - if you are unable to attend the zoom on Thurs evening - please message me with any points you'd like raised. Obviously, there are a few main points that will be top of the list that will be the same as everyone's .... and hopefully we'll get a satisfactory outcome from the Zoom discussion. Feel free to contact Kirsten yourself if you'd like a 'one on one' chat with her before the Zoom discussion - tho most time slots would be taken by now, so it could be after the discussion.
