Re: After 13 years and 2 diagnoses today the biggest celebration yet...
@lrb_03 I'm still going. 8 years since my reoccurrence I've stopped taking everything too. My onc would have liked me to take the AI for ten years, but 7.5 was enough when my bone density started to plummet. I'm still working full time and it's a 120km daily round trip to the office. Except for this week. I've got bloody COVID and am sitting up in bed death scrolling the internet. I've run out of tissues and I'm reduced to a roll of toilet paper to try to deal with the remarkable amount of phlegm my body has decided to produce. I mean, really? It's the glamour of life that keeps you going. Luckily I have a thing for good quality bog roll. I'm thinking I'll go online to see if I can get a home delivery of the essentials and a bottle of brandy for medicinal purposes.21Views1like0CommentsRe: Extensive DCIS
@Leach learning that you have a malignant boob is a life changing experience. I immediately distrusted the other. I can honestly say that the distress at loss of my breasts has been more than offset by the relief that I don't have to monitor them any more. Mxx16Views2likes0CommentsRe: Extreme weakness!
Don't discount the emotional and psychological toll committing yourself to chemo can have. It's a big deal. When I get super stressed I present with the classic fight or flight responses--I either start climbing the walls and attacking everything that moves or retreat to bed and assume the foetal position. Everything you feel is real and valid. Try to view this as a very interesting personal experience which will pass. Keep plodding forward and you will eventually trudge out into some form of normality. Albeit with dodgy gut flora and wonky feet (in my case) It's all pretty shit, but it is our best chance of survival. Mxx5Views1like0CommentsRe: I think it’s come back…
@Teabaglady, I reckon the little bell that rings in our heads sometimes is the last vestiges of our primitive selves. It's giving us a warning that something is wrong even though there is not yet any evidence to support those feelings. You've listened to your bell, you've followed up on it. Well done. Your fears are valid and now you have had them addressed. Never feel bad about asking questions. The pain is a 'thing'. Very difficult to keep track of it and scarring changes over the years which means you can never be sure what is a natural progression and what is new. Keep listening to your bell. Thank you @gumnut for keeping track of us all and thanks to all the respondents. Did you know you get $8 off a movie ticket if you are officially a senior? Tis a grand thing, but I'd rather be able to walk down the stairs without worrying about faceplanting :)6Views1like0CommentsRe: Feeling alone and scared
@Lauren11 I was 43 at my first diagnosis; also a sizable lymph involved lobular tumour. That was nearly 17 years ago. I did have a local recurrence at the 10 year mark (there really is no point in sugar coating this shit) but I'm still here. Chemo sucks for a week a month, rads are a lottery--you either cruise it or end up so resembling a roast chicken that you attract stray dogs-- and the hormone stuff is moderately horrible at first but you get used to it eventually. Don't get too involved with the timeframes for treatment. That time would pass anyway. Just keep plodding forward. Mxx45Views2likes0Comments
