On Our Walks

Jemima and friend nesting at our home this year

Mrs Tawny Frog Mouth on her nest. She uses the same tree, same branch and I am sure the same twigs and piece of bark each year. Two clutches each wet season with usually 2 successful chicks from each clutch. Dad and juniors from last year are roosting in the shed.

@Sister
We think she had been there for a good week because we could hear her call but could not see her. The gum tree is in the centre of our 2 way driveway. All year the parent birds and last year's chicks roost in the shed up on the big steel girders.
It is lovely to watch the newly hatched chickies change from fluffy white downy little balls into fully fledged owls. First you see 2 black eyes in a ball of white fluff staring down at you.
The funniest part is when the nestlings are trying to be a branch but cannot resist swiveling their heads to watch you walk past. Mum / Dad hiss at them.
The adults will raise this clutch and then in January (depending on the wet season and food available) sit again. Some years all chicks will survive and some years none.
They have been on our block for over 10 years - same tree - same branch - same piece of bark.
I will post photos of mum and hatchlings.

OK, I did walk and did run (4km) around this beach (Smiths Beach - Yallingup - South coast WA) but this is the obligatory cartwheel I do on all beaches. Legs don't get as straight as they used to!

That's one of the most mortifying things about getting older - getting up! I avoid sitting on the ground these days because of the inevitable unedifying sight of the scramble it takes to get up. It's nothing to do with treatment, just ageing legs!0

I couldn't straighten up when I got out of the car yesterday...but to be fair, that was happening before Letrozole. I think it's probably just menopause related (or a symptom of not looking after my joints well enough before I got old!).0

Goodness me, We'll have to start a new thread - can't get up off the ground!*?! I have a special method which I can't describe to get myself back up. When I start Encore group in a couple of weeks I hope I can get an exercise to build my strength in the legs. And dear @JJ70, thanks for the photo of the beautiful beach and very impressive cartwheel!2

@JJ70 the last time I attempted a cartwheel (to show a child what one looks like) I didn't factor in the increased weight of my legs, decreased upper body strength and generally reduced flexibility and agility from when I was a child, and nearly ripped out my groin muscle! Note to self - brain must remember age and state of body when attempting future demonstrations! Good on you for still managing the wheel!4
