Re: Foot and hand syndrome chemo
Good morning @arpie🤗,
I’ve just inbox you 🤭.
can you elaborate further on ‘gel booties’, please. Where did you buy them from? I seem to be so ‘lucky’ getting most of the rare side effects even when on Taxols which is supposedly to be easier than AC😅.

Re: Still feeling discombobulated!
Wow! It is very comforting to read your responses and see the beautiful posts of support. I have got through surgery and radiotherapy and one month into hormone blockers. It has been a road of five months so far. I am in a terrific rehab programme and meeting women also affected by breast cancer.
I am still transitioning into a new way of being and relating in the world. I have changed and used to be very social but now I have social fatigue especially in noisy cafes and intense conversations. The other day, I met an old friend for brunch. She has missed me and as a result, took over the conversation and unfortunately it was very one sided. She didn't want to talk about the cancer and the journey. I left feeling fatigued and not heard. Have others experienced this before?

Re: How quickly can a tumour show up between scans?
Paying for scans is pretty standard, I live in Toowoomba QLD and there are 2 providers here. One is slightly less expensive than the other but $1200 is the quote for mammogram, US and biopsy and is around about what I paid when I was first diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago. Without the biopsy its about $400 a side.
Obviously there is medicare rebate, so we end up $530 out of pocket but still need to pay up front and then claim the refund which is sh!t.
@arpie FA is fibroadenoma - benign tumour. I am 44

Re: Steri Strips have come off after 3 days. Do they need replacing?
@Blossom1961 Thank you, didn’t even think of calling the oncology ward. Will given them a call in the morning.
Re: New Diagnosed
Thank you @Bez_BCNA. I did not realize how many resources are under the My Journey section. So much to look at and process.

Re: Scared about hormone blocking treatment
Thank you, it so useful to hear everyone’s story and even just hearing from women who have been in the same situation is so comforting

Re: Lobular breast cancer just diagnosed
Well I rang my nurse and had to go straight in to see her at The Mater Hospital where she took out 75ml of blood with a syringe from my chest!
I've definitely learned a lesson to "take it easy" !!
That was on Thursday, now Saturday, it seems to have settled down a lot, not as swollen and dark coloured, thank goodness. Hope tonight it's not so burning with pain.
I'm also suffering from stopping the HRT's I was on, with hot flushes and I get really annoying "restless legs" in bed at night.
Has anyone else had this? and suggestions how to stop that? I can put up with the hot flushes but the restless legs drives me crazy.
The nurses only suggested Magnesium tabs but it's not really helping
If anyone knows a magical cure I'd be so grateful!
x

Re: New Diagnosis - Navigating
Hi @nicmaree, so happy to hear that your op went fine and that the medical team were very supportive . I think that is probably the most important part of your treatment done!
It seems natural to me that you should be so tired. You're doing really well to keep up with the exercises and the small walk each day. Self-care and a little indulgence too is just the ticket.
My mother had breast cancer (2 occurrences, over a decade apart) and my sister and I were told it wasn't genetic, I think that was because of mum's age - but then I turned up at almost 55 with two cancers, one in each breast. So I've been referred for genetic testing.
But I also was on low dose HRT a few years, and went through a lot of stress last year. Then I thought, did I have too many glasses of wine with my dinner over the years....there's so many things to suspect. I realise it can be helpful sometimes to know why, but I've decided not to worry about it anymore, unless of course there is genetic information turned up. Especially I don't want to blame myself, or anyone else. I'm just focussing on getting better and a future with a new perspective
You will find lots of support on here, such a lovely group of people

Steri Strips have come off after 3 days. Do they need replacing?
Hello again. I had surgery late on Wednesday for a lumpectomy and lymph node removal, the steri strips that covered the incision (dissolvable stitches) for the lymph node under my arm pit have come off. Should I be getting these replaced? Why does everything seem to happen on a weekend? TIA
