invasive ductal carcinoma
19 TopicsFirst appointment with a surgeon
So my first appointment with a surgeon is this coming Wednesday. I am going through a public system in Brisbane. Will I be having any tests done on the same day or is it more likely that he will tell me to come back and get the tests done another day ? He’s got my mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy results already. Thank you!39Views0likes3CommentsJust diagnosed
Hi, I thought I would introduce myself here. I am 49 years old and have just been diagnosed (two days ago) with an Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my left breast. HR+ HER 2 negative, provisional grade 1, 4 small lumps. Will be meeting my surgeon at RBWH next week on Wednesday. The last 11 days, since the Breast screen recall feel like a blur. So much has happened and of course I didn’t anticipate any of that (lumps aren’t palpable). I have been directed here by the wonderful nurse from the Breast Screen and am very grateful to find so much support and information. I haven’t told my kids or friends yet so it feels good to be able to open up here.81Views1like9CommentsVery difficult to listen the Podcast
Hi all, so I started listening to Charlotte's podcast. I just started the Episode 2. While this podcast is fantastic, I find it extremely hard to listen and my emotions just overcome me. I would love to know how is everyone going and what do you do to stay calm and not be a slobbering and emotional mess like me. 😔 Thank you everyone 💓189Views4likes11CommentsNewly Diagnosed with further tests required
Hi. I was diagnosed a little over a week ago and I had a surgeon appointment today. She wants an MRI as my breast tissue is so dense some of the images are too vague for her to determine a clear surgery plan. But I have a potential surgery date for a few weeks time. I am thinking this is good that she is being thorough. But it does concern me as there may be more than meets the eye and she has given me that warning. Current knowledge is that I have 2 areas of concern, close to each other on same side, hormone positive, HER2 negative, provisional stage 1. One area is about 7mm, the other is ill defined and this is what she wants more images of. I feel better after meeting the surgeon, and hearing her explanation, her delivery of the plan from here and her general 'bedside manner' was the perfect amount of real. She took the time to understand what was concerning me. I am running the Sydney Marathon at the end of the month and after doing all the training and prep I would have been devastated if I couldn't run it. However we have a plan to get me there. So even though I need more scans to be certain of exactly what is going on, I am feeling as good as can be as there is some progress. In the back of my mind, is what if it is more than the fairly common and small areas I have? I can't dwell as it is what it is. I will focus on the run and deal with these things as they arise!156Views4likes4CommentsA little vanity…
Hey chat, first time query having just been diagnosed, starting chemo 11/08. If anyone has experience with having created their eyebrows before losing them, that would be appreciated. Also, I read in the TCHP side effects document, not to keep ‘fake’ nails, however, my oncologist said ‘good, keep your acrylics for nails protection’ , if anyone can give me your feedback, I’d appreciate it, thankyou.107Views0likes1CommentFeeling overwhelmed
Hi thereAll I am 59, happily married, have two adult children. One grandson and baby no 2 due anyday now... Had surgery last week for lumpectomy and Sentinel node biopsy. Everything went well Saw surgeron yesterday . Lymph nodes are clear. Margins good. My issues is I am SO overwhelmed. Smiling for family. Smiling for friends. Little background. I had **bleep** cancer 10 years ago, back in 2016. Chemo and radiation. It was brutal. The burns were horrible. The exhaustion was the worst. Everyone is saying.... your so lucky you caught it early. You've done this before... you'll be right. Support is encouraging and I am lucky to be surrounded by lots of love. I am to be a grandmother again in two weeks and have a lively gorgeous 2 year old grandson. Timing suck.... I am overwhelmed with sadness I am overwhelmed With discourage, feeling of resentment. Feeling very isolated. **bleep** THIS CANCER... so sorry for language but it express how I feel. I want to shout. Cry. Hit something and hide under the covers and not deal with this. I know that I should be grateful. I am sick and exhausting from smiling on the outside, but paddling like hell of the inside. Hiding my emotions. I still work. Love the job. I work for a Toy library as assistant. Its not a stresing job. Only 3 days a week. They have been wonderful. How has everyone else cope. I know what I am going through is normal. Can anyone suggest a good cancer support group. I live in Victoria on the Mornington peninsula. Love and support to everyone going on this same journey Let's kick ass . Cancer sucks. Hi everyone, I was diagnosed on the 12 May with Invasive ductal Carcinoma ER + PR+ and HER 2 negative. I'm still getting my head around the situation. I stopped all forms of hormone therapy, for menopause when I was told about my diagnosis and am now experiencing more menopause symptoms, hot flushes, night sweats, lack of sleep, and aching joints. I've met with the surgeon this week and have decided to have a lumpectomy. I'm now waiting on a surgery date. I've collected my hormone blocking medication Tamoxifen and am planning to start this weekend. I'm worried about the side effects that I might experience and how it might affect my work as a disability support next week.247Views0likes6CommentsNew grade 1 diagnosis
Hello. I’ve just been diagnosed: left breast invasive ductal, grade 1, hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative. GP summary is that this is a low-grade hormone-positive breast cancer that can be successfully treated usually with lumpectomy then radiotherapy. I’m seeing a surgeon next week and feel relieved that this has been caught early. That said, I’m not looking forward to the next few months and am wondered if there is anyone else at a similar starting point - or people who’ve been down a similar road and can share advice and support. I’m 59, live in Sydney, work full time in a high pressure job, and am a single mum with a teenager at home. Thank you497Views2likes12CommentsNewly Diagnosed
Hi My name is Victoria, I'm 42 years old and I have been newly (well, 5.5 weeks ago) diagnosed with breast cancer. It is is located underneath the nipple on my left breast and it is invasive ductal carcinoma, ER+, PR- HER2-, Stage Two. (Sorry if I don't have all the details but that is what I have interpreted it as). The tumor is 2.5 cm. I have seen my surgeon twice and I will be having a single mastectomy next week some time followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. We had discussed a lumpectomy so he could try and save the nipple but I opted for the mastectomy, just for a clean break. I'm dealing with it okay- I'm a bit concerned I haven't cried yet- and everyone else around me is very supportive and very shocked. I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully be able to contribute something to these groups. Thank you Victoria345Views3likes8Comments
