TERRIFIED of Treatment
I’m not sure I can convey in writing how terrified I am I’m not sure there is a word to describe it the worry I feel is debilitating, I already suffer from anxiety and this is just exasperating it, i was diagnosed about a month ago and have had a Lumpectomy with good results margins were clear and lymph nodes were clear, my cancer is triple negative and they are still wanting me to have chemo and radiation. The plan is 12 weekly doses of chemo then about 15-20 treatments of radiation along with Herceptin every 3 weeks for a year. I am supposed to go to Hospital on Tuesday for Echocardiogram, Port Insertion and my first chemo.
Everday for the last two weeks I have woken up at 6am in what I think is a panic attack I have tingles all over my body and shaking and I don’t want to get out of bed I’m at a point where I don’t think I’m going to be able to get myself to the hospital on Tuesday, and on top of all this I live in Melbourne so we have COVID to deal with which means no one can come to hospital with me I have to do this alone.
I am terrified of having the port put in and the thought of it being in my body for so long is terrifying to me I am also completely terrified of the chemo and all the worry it will cause me between treatments having to monitor temperature etc etc will be so stressful for me.
I have tried conveying this to various people (Doctors, Family, Psycologist) and all they say is you have to do this and take one step at a time, I feel like no one is really grasping how terrified I am and no one is helping me with the mental side of this, am I the only one that feels this way please HELP me as I don’t think I can mentally survive this and am seriously considering not going on Tuesday.

- Sue_w1Member@KMAC46 Checking in on you, how did you go? I read your post and was half way through writing to you before I realised you would of started treatment by now.
You can do this! It sucks, it really does, but you've got this.
I had a mastectomy and lymph nodes removed on the 14th of July, on Wednesday I have my first Oncologist appointment. You know what, I'm scared too, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let this bastard of a disease beat me!
You hear people say they'd 'give their left arm' for this or that. Well I gave my left tit to be healthy, you gave up part of your body too. Get angry and fight girl!
You came through the lumpectomy and you can come through this too. You're fighting back.
Hugs to you - Sue_w1Member.
- AllyJayMemberDear @KMAC46...I too hope that all went as well as could be anticipated for you today. You've been in my mind and have reminded me of just how far I am today, from the scared shitless woman I was four years ago facing my first chemo. We've got your back. I posted this a while back on another thread, but I think it's germain.
- AfraserMemberDear @KMAC46
I hope you have had your first treatment and that all went well. Thinking of you. - AbbydogMember@KMAC46
I'm sending this possibly too late.
Tomorrow was the day that I believe you were to have the port and Chemo done,
I was rereading some posts, and just realised that you said about having a Port in your arm.
Mine is in my chest, just under the skin. It would be just outside my bra edge. Sorry I couldn't send the best photo that gives better perspective. ( due to my computer skills) This photo makes it look like it is in the middle of me.
The port is the grey looking circle, the stitch line is where they inserted it. Fresh bruises.
I hope you have had it explained well.
There is another thing called a PICC line. That is in the arm, and has dressings over it all of the time.
All the best, if I'm not too late. - Katy_SodapopMemberThere will be no greater help than seeking one on one assistance from a counselor or psychologist. I work in this field with addiction and I'm a 6 and a bit year survivor of an aggressive BC diagnosis and when I wanted to stop treatment I had to seek professional help because I wouldn't be here without my port, the chemo, the radiation, the surgery and the 6 years of hormone medication ... Yes it's bloody hard and it makes you question everything you know or believe in as a human being but sometime we are too emotional and entwined in our anxiety/predictions/outcomes/feelings of uncertainty/unhelpful thinking habits and so we need a professional with the skills to be able to objectively help us make sense and cope as best we can
- kazbMember@AllyJay, excellent words of advice! Its not a competition, and we should all be on the same side. I do hope that @KMAC46 returns to the forum.
- AllyJayMemberDear @KMAC46...as Afraser has said above, please remember that there is more than one member who will try to cheer you on and support you, albeit via the electronic ether. As you yourself also said, each one of us is different, with different strengths, abilities and personalities, never mind social demographics, age, size and general health (or in my case...lack thereof). This is not a competition to establish who trumps who with what or to what degree and the only thing we all have in common is breast cancer....we even have some male members in the group, also with breast cancer. This being the case, I couldn't possibly toss out some grossly insensitive comment which boils down to "get your shit together and move on...I did and so can you..." I have no prepackaged formula or solution but I do have empathy. I remember the sheer panic and overwhelming sense of doom that I felt when diagnosed in September 2016. My only grandchild, a little boy, was 14 months old at the time, and I was convinced I wouldn't even see Christmas that year. Well the little chap has just turned five and has a baby sister of just over a year. I've had many dramas in between, of the medical variety, but I just keep plodding on, remembering the old question of "How do you eat an elephant?"...answer..."One bite at a time"... so easy to say, but so very much harder to do...especially the gristly bits. We are here, day and night..(check the Night Howls thread) and in the great majority, we are here to hold you up and let you know that you are not alone.

You haven’t lost a form of support, it’s just one opinion you don’t agree with. Let it go, remembering the sympathetic advice you have already received. Everyone is different and everyone is entitled to their opinion, just like you are. We all want you to get through tomorrow well. - KMAC46Member@BlackWidow you can think what you like about me but don’t put it in my discussion you don’t know anything about me or my anxiety if you don’t have anything supportive to say don’t say anything I understand everyone is going through this but not everyone is the same and the process will be harder for some than others I’m really upset by your comments and that has not helped my anxiety I probably will get off this forum now because I dont want to see anymore comments like this so now I’ve just lost one form of support
