What a fabulous weekend! So much information & I was very busy note taking!! The presenters were incredible & it was a credit to BCNA to organise such a collection of great minds to be together in the same building!
I thought Dr Charlotte Tottman was probably my pick if I had to choose & Raelene Boyle my fav guest speaker. Both incredible, strong woman who have both been through so much on the cancer journey.
I think we all learnt to be kind to yourself & accept that life after cancer is & will always be, different from that before. We need to accept who we are & re-calibrate our expectations. Stress will only make things worse for our body so mindfulness & meditation will play a big part is helping us all live better quality lives & learn to love ourselves. The Tribute Field of Women was very emotional which meant we all needed the drinks & canapes afterwards to re-group!
Congrats to KP & the BCNA team for a weekend I will never forget. i was lucky to get a last minute ticket & i am so thankful. I did see @Marianne_BCNA as she was our "mic lady" so was running around the room with the microphone all weekend handing it out to the crowd. The biggest highlight was catching up with my friend @Sister for the second time. She looked fabulous & it was so lovely to spend more time with her. Its very emotional to meet up with our forum friends & its wonderful occasions like this, that we are all forever grateful. love & hugs to all the BCNA team who our now part of my forever family xx5 -
@Rosie_BCNA, just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the conference in Adelaide, agree with all the positive comments posted. I do have one area of major disappointment though. I was in the metastatic bc group and we didn't get to listen to Raylene Boyle. I heard she was totally inspirational. I would have thought for such a great speaker the two groups could have merged. I didn't even realise she was speaking until I heard people talking about how great she was. I was very disappointed to have missed her. Perhaps a joint presentation could be considered for future events when such an amazing speaker is secured.0

Will there be any feedback on the facilitated discussion with metastatic breast cancer patients and Kirsten Pilatti: "You look so well, when does your treatment finish?" @Riki_BCNA.

Hi @Lisa67 thanks for your feedback about the conference as well as all the commentary from the others who attended. It was a jam packed weekend and we were delighted with the presenters and the response from those who were able to be there. I'm sorry i didn't get to meet you @Sister and @Anne65 - I was in the metastatic room all day on Saturday.
@Lisa67, I will certainly pass on your thoughts about having both groups come together to hear Raelene Boyle speak. We are having a post conference review this afternoon and will also see what was raised in the evaluation forms but I think yours is a great idea.3 -
Could you please explain @Riki_BCNA why last week there was valuable information available for those of us with metastatic breast cancer but this week the information available is not worth posting?0
-
Hello @Patti J based on feedback from the Adelaide forum we will be live
streaming the metastatic breast cancer sessions of the Gold Coast forum. This will
allow more people to participate. We hope that you will be able to be involved.
The format of the metastatic breast cancer session will be similar to that of
Adelaide and other forums BCNA conducts. We will have presentations from a medical specialist and other experts talking about lifestyle, health and well being. Information about the conference will
be posted in the online network as it becomes available.0 -
Thanks @Riki_BCNA. I would still like to have heard the discussion about not looking sick.0

From the latest BCNA news could you please tell me the coping strategies discussed and the advances in treatment for those of us with metastatic breast cancer @Giovanna_BCNA? Apparently this was discussed at this conference.0

"The conference also included a separate program for people living with metastatic breast cancer, looking at advances in metastat breast cancer treatment and care, and provided coping strategies." BCNA NEWS 16 Aug 2019. @Riki_BCNA.0

Hello @Patti J
I wasnt at the Adelaide conference but understand that coping strategies were discussed during the course of the day. I have been told that the presentation that will be delivered at the October Gold Coast forum will be very similar to what was discussed at the Adelaide conference re coping strategies for people living with metastatic breast cancer. The session will also be live streamed which will allow more people to participate and to hear the discussions first hand.
You may already be aware that we recently recorded a podcast about metastatic breast cancer that you may like to listen to or read the transcript. https://www.bcna.org.au/understanding-breast-cancer/resources/podcasts/episode-5-metastatic-breast-cancer/ If you need further information and or support, dont hesitate to call our helpline on 1800 500 258.
kind regards

Thanks @Giovanna_BCNA. I have listened to the podcast. It was interesting. However, I am in a much different situation to the person on the podcast. Coping strategies would help me much more.
I will look forward to the Gold Coast forum.0
