@SoldierCrab I told you you can already I thought ? but I’ve already done that sent it to all the local community groups etc as well done radio interview flyers you name it ive done it unfortunately I guess we aren’t a “big enough charity” to support which is such a shame there aren’t any breast cancer charities in Australia that I know of that help pay your household bills, pay for cleaners, or lymphodemic sleeves or appointments to specialists etc. when they can not to mention all the other great stuff they do too in the community. the only other one that I know of that offers financial support is young pink sisters that can offer up to $600 for out of pocket medical costs which is awesome and the bigger charities like McGrath  and BCNA etc whilst it’s important to pay for our breast care nurses and have the counseling services etc  it’s also important to try and offer support like be Uplifted does. Even if they are only brisbane north based. I feel so many families now will miss out as I’ve failed to pull this off. So unless There is a miracle and 18 groups/businesses to buy at least a table of 10 each which isn’t going to happen now at this late notice this event will be cancelled.  Such a great night is planned too I just don’t get it. Good value for money as well. So I thought.  Anyway I’ll re evaluate and try something else now I guess. Thanks everyone. Margie xx

Margie, don't beat yourself up about this. You had a vision and put in such an effort and if the event is cancelled, rest assured that you tried your hardest. Winter is a harder time to do functions such as this, since the cold weather keeps people warm at home. Save your energy for another event on another day, and hat's off to you for trying.

Margie, I agree with others you put your heart and soul into it but as we know it is not easy!
When you go through the review period have a look at, time of year, cost of event and the area you are aiming at, perhaps cost is too much as they go through treatment and maybe something like a Trivia Night to test the waters for support with a guest presenter and perhaps a silent auction...…………….only a thought...……………..please be proud of what you set out to do.  When you try something like this again see if you, or someone from the Charity, can be a guest speaker at Community groups to see if you can enthuse them into attending and or contributing in the way of sponsorship, financial donation and or items for silent auction

In the meantime here's to a miracle for you for the event to go ahead

    Take care

im so sorry but it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to cancel the event due to lack of ticket sales, i thank you so much for all your words of support its been appreciated. @iserbrown i tried tirelessly to get a celebrity to attend and managed to get our lovely local channel 10 news's pippa sheehan to attend but unfortunately its not enough, I also emailed just about every celebrity in the country to ask them if they could kindly donate their time, offered to pay flights accom but either got no response at all, no one interested in donating there time other than Pippa or they had other commitments and again weren't prepared to come for nothing. I did the morning tea last year and that was good raised around $1400 but i wanted to do more this time, I was never expecting anyone having treatment or with financial worries related to bc (i know exactly how that feels) to attend that wasn't my target it was more community/business based, anyway nothing i can do, Margie x

Hi all so I’ve decided to refocus after the disaster of my previous attempt at the gala dinner. So I’m looking for ideas to start the ball rolling again but this time I’m going to give myself 12 months or so to get sorted. I’ve started collecting raffle prizes and emailing celebs to attend as this seems to be the drawcard for a successful night.

So if we decide to pay someone to attend rather than asking them to donate their time which Just didn’t happen I’m guessing that would be at least 10k to get someone half decent to attend ??? Perhaps @Marianne_BCNA or @Giovanna_BCNA  could PM about that ? so we’d have to charge around $150 a head for say 200 people. The gala dinner we had to cancel due to lack of ticket sales was $108 a ticket including dinner and entertainment and we had the local channel 10 bris news lady coming but still not enough to entice anyone.

And I think we stuffed up by putting smack bang in the middle of school holidays too So what I’m wanting to know from you lovelies is ideas and feedback and when and if you aren’t all broke from bc what would you be prepared to pay and what would entice you to attend for a night or it can be a day thing too I’m open to anything really.

I thought of a themed night perhaps instead , a bit more casual

eg an 80s night or similar maybe ??

See I’m shit at this and need your help lol !!  Margie x

It may be a good idea to try to get into bed with another charity that has more clout. What about the local prostate cancer people? Half of a bit is better than not much of anything. Don't overlook the less obvious either; I know that the bowel cancer people are always complaining that BC gets all the glitter, offer to share some of the shine. Tits, arse, dick and balls. What could possibly go wrong? :)

No prostate group has a quarter of the clout of a breast cancer charity such as BCNA or NBCF. The charity you went with, @onemargie was a minnow compared to these two groups. The trouble is that these larger groups have their fundraisers throughout the year already planned years ahead and are loathe to adopt new ideas. As to getting different charity cancers combining for an event, I don't think this would happen. They are all too fiercely independent. @Zoffiel, IMO tits, arse, dick and balls. What could possibly go right?

Sometimes sheer absurdity has appeal. The fundraising industry is seriously jaded though I have to admit that combining resources is most unlikely given the egos and expectations of the organisations I am familiar with. My comments are, to a degree, tongue in cheek @traveltext, but our @onemargie is a unique individual so maybe she could pull off something outside the square. Doing it the 'proper' way didn't work, the people who will benefit won't give two hoots where the money comes from and if it's a complete cock up, she's back where she started from. Gawd, I could have written content for Benny Hill. :)

Find a comedian. People love a laugh.

How about the Brains, Boobs & Balls Ball?! Brain cancer, breast cancer and testicular cancer. The combos are endless!

Give me enough warning and it's not beyond possibility that I'd fly up to attend Margie. The further out the easier it is to get cheap flights.
