Grade 3 Oncotype Test Chemo decisions
Hi all, I’m in the challenging time of making decisions about chemo and would love to hear experiences from others journey particularly with any similar cancer. I have had lumpectomy on left breast results showing- Stage 2A invasive carcinoma 25mm Grade 3, HR+ PR-HER2- with lymphovascular invasion but all 13 lymph nodes sampled as clear. I am 39yo and very active and healthy (apart from this)! I pooled my savings to get the oncotype DX ordered- I am now waiting for results. (Still can’t believe we have to pay $5000 for this). I understand the Grade 3 PR negative and lymphovascular invasion detected are likely risk factors that tip towards benefits of chemo. But I have been reading more about the effectiveness of hormone therapies like OS+AI and that perhaps I could avoid chemo. I will let you all know my score when it comes back- I hope it’s low but if it’s high I’m facing such hard decisions that any similar experiences may help! thank you932ViewsSign in to react to this post19CommentsRadiation, driving and fatigue
I was hoping to hear about any experiences of driving and fatigue while undergoing radiation. I've been told to be aware of fatigue. The radiation oncologist and nurses have raised concerns and eyebrows when I've told them it's a one hour drive door to door, so two hour round trip x 15 sessions. I'm also maintaining hope that I can continue working part time in an outdoors job where lately I'm doing 14k+ steps a day. Ultimately I'm going to see how it goes. I'm not going to break myself. If I get too tired then I have backup people to help with the driving (public transport isn't an option around here), reduce my activity at work or take leave, or get accommodation near the hospital for some of the sessions. I'm wondering if some people have got through radiation without fatigue? Or if fatigue has occurred has it affected driving? And how fast the fatigue appears - might you have been okay one morning and zonked in the afternoon?ViewsSign in to react to this postCommentsRadiation treatment
I’m 4 sessions in of 3 weeks radiation. Had a lumpectomy about 6 weeks ago. I’ve also have fibromyalgia, depression and adhd. I’m suffering badly from imposter syndrome because I know how lucky I am, so don’t come on here often. I’m preparing for the possibility of feeling lethargic due to added fibro. But might be fine. I’m normally obnoxiously positive but the issue at the moment is I’m on and off angry. My mood is terrible. I’m yelling at the dogs and just **bleep**ty in general. Im doing all of this alone which is sort of my choice but theres really no one else. My kids are busy with their own families and friends all have partners. So I’m by myself. But also feel leave me alone I’m lonely. So not much fun to be around anyway. In the last 8 months I’ve had 2 knee replacements (one being stuffed up), putting my mum in a nursing home with dementia and selling her home without her knowledge. Have started a new business and Also broken off an under 12 months relationship with a narcissist. I’m going on 5 year hormone therapy after radiation. I’m concerned about mood and weight gain. Which is so trivial compared to what others are going through. It’s possibly nothing to do with diagnosis but I thought I’d reach out and check to see if anyone experienced the same. Hello, I had my initial appointment yesterday with my radiation oncologist and know I have to decide if I want my treatment to be over 1 week or 3 weeks? I had surgery 2 weeks ago -Early breast cancer, it was small 10mm and hasn’t spread to lymph nodes. From what I understood the 1 week treatment is higher dose and is equivalent to the 3 weeks, so am I crazy not to do that? Chance of stronger side effects, but at least it’s over with faster… this is all so overwhelming! I can’t really find much information about doing the 1 week. I'm under going 4 rounds of AC and have used the cold cap medium size First round didn't lose any hair and had a hair cut in between rounds and lost allot of hair from my crown in the second round. Hi all, I'm about to start my first of 12 x weekly paclitaxel treatments on Monday (combined with trastuzumab infusions every three weeks). I am keen to try scalp cooling to try to reduce hair loss and had gotten my mind around the cold factor (I think!). However, I had my chemo education session yesterday and got to try on a cap. I discovered that the cap alone for just a few minutes was very uncomfortable/slightly painful on my forehead and am now not sure how I'll go with this for several hours! The nurse did get me to then try the next cap size up, but this didn't seem to be as good a fit and had a gap at the back of my head - hence may not be effective. I also didn't have a headband on when I tried the first cap - so possibly this might also help a little. Just wondering if this tightness/pressure/forehead pain is normal or if anyone else has experience and tips on dealing with this? I noticed from other posts about scalp cooling that these seem to suggest the hardest period is the first 15-20 mins and then your head acclimatises/becomes numb. Just wondering if this also applies to the feeling of tightness of the cap? Or if there are any other tips on reducing pain/pressure on your forehead during the cooling process? I figure I'll give it a go anyway on Monday as I can always stop the scalp cooling if it is too much for me, but any advice would be very welcome!ViewsSign in to react to this postCommentsRadiation cost
Hi everyone, I'm trying to get an idea of the cost of radiation therapy in Australia for those who do not have access to Medicare. I was diagnosed last Feb 2026, ER/PR+, Her2-, BRCA2+, 2 positive LN, and am currently undergoing chemotherapy. I'll be having a bilateral mastectomy in July, followed by radiation therapy. I'm on a temporary work visa in Australia, so I don't have access to Medicare. Unfortunately, my OVHC insurance won't cover radiation treatment because it is considered outpatient care. I’m really feeling really anxious about the potential costs, and to be honest, the financial burden has made me wonder whether I can even afford to go ahead with radiation. I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through radiation without Medicare coverage. How much did it cost, and were there any financial assistance programs, charities, or other support options available to help? Hi all, I have metastatic breast cancer and have been on Abraxane since September (about 6 months in). I’m starting to get early neuropathy in my feet. My hospital doesn’t provide any support around cryotherapy, but I’m keen to trial gloves/socks during treatment to see if it helps. Before I go and spend $200–$300 on a mefucal grade set, I wanted to ask: Does anyone in Australia have a pair they’re no longer using and would be open to lending or selling? Or any recommendations on what actually works (vs what’s a waste of money)? I also have Hashimoto’s disease & bad blood circulation, so I’m not even sure how well I’ll tolerate the cold—another reason I’d prefer to try before buying. Hi I'm struggling to get the information and support to make a decision on whether to have chemo prior to radiotherapy. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts from a similar journey or ideas of where I can go for help? Her2 negative hormone positive 15mm grade 2 on biopsy grade 3 following lumpectomy with clear margins and clear lymph nodes. Ki67 was 5-10% at biopsy not tested on tumour so possibly higher. Would like genome testing advised to have ProSigna which is for post menopausal women I'm pre-menopause (?!) Hi guys So, my lumpectomy is scheduled for Tuesday 31 March. Just wondering what recovery time to expect and when do they usually start radiotherapy. Im the type of person who likes to be prepared and have a rough time frame so I can organise myself and my work commitments. My boss is very understanding and says not to worry about work and concentrate on getting better, but I need to be organised. It’s that time of the year with flu season coming up. I had planned to have flu shot before starting radiotherapy . I made enquiries with breast care nurse if I should go ahead and get vaccine. My information was if I had a flu shot it could be a problem if my lymph nodes were swollen the radiotherapy may be delayed. I will now not get flu vaccine until after radiotherapy. Hello Everyone, I have just received my 2nd breast cancer diagnosis (in 2 years 🤔) And am scheduled for a lumpectomey mid march. This time around I am apparently a good canditate for IORT, which means no having to go to radaiton appointments for weeks and weeks. Its done durning surgery and thats it. I have been given a brouchre and am meeting with my radaition doctor next week. Hello all, I will be starting radiation tomorrow. I had a complete pathological response after 6 months of chemo and a double mastectomy with complete axillary node removal and DIEP recon. But since I am young and had TNBC I was advised to have radiation to mop up strays as they say. I am terrified of radiation and always have been even more than chemo. So I would like to hear from anyone who has been through radiation. How was the experience for you? Especially if you had it to your sub-clavicular nodes (neck). Do you still have scars? skin changes? tightness?lymphoedema? Any tips or tricks? I will be having a total of 15 sessions (40Gy). Hi, I am likely going to start chemo possibly next week. It’s will be TC for three months. I am very worried about it of course. I would like very much to reduce my risk of peripheral neuropathy and wondered if there’s any advice on best things to use for hands and feet. Hi everyone. I am on day 8 of post radiation and the skin in my under breast and just below breast in the crease has peeled and is basically red raw. Is truly distressing and awful. I have large breasts so it's so hard to manage due to the weight. I am putting on StrataXRT and trying to let it dry by lifting the breast up but when working and walking around it's so painful and is so red and sore. I wanted to ask you all if you have any tips on this and how long it takes to stop weeping and breaking off? I got very upset about it as is so horrible and will be speaking with my nurse but wanted to reach out to the community to ask for any advice or similar situations.
