Letrozole muscle pain

morning 😃 I have been on letrozole for about week and halve, boy oh boy ive been getting muscle pain for the last couple days in my tummy/sides area, spoke with my oncologist about it yesterday and she agrees that’s what it’s from, during day don’t really feel it but at night it’s so painful, been taking panodol osteo sometimes works well other times not so well has anyone else had the muscle pain and what did you do to relive it?
  • @melclarity I’m find8ng the more I do the better I am, have been stretch8ng my whole body when in bed and seems to help as well, might try the magnesium as well Thankyou
  • @Glynnis letrozole is my last one to try and Im going to switch from Aromasin to that as its a non steroidal medication, whereas Aromasin is grrrr! and honestly cannot keep up with the diet exercise that does not help with weight. I suffer muscle cramping and pains in my back both sides like muscle I guess. Stretching is one of the best things you can do to help alleviate that. I also take magnesium in water daily and that is meant to help combat that as well. x M
  • @Artferret Thankyou for that, it’s funny you mention the drinking enough water, on Sunday drank a lot more and felt s9 much better, yesterday didn’t drink as much and had muscle pain during the night, today been the same haven’t drunk as much tonight so will see what happens but was starting to think along the same lines with the water 😃
  • @Glynnis, I don't tend to get the muscle pains so much anymore just the stiffness. The only time it would really hit me would be if i hadn't drunk enough water in the day or had had a bout of diarrhea. What helps for me in that case is either hydralyte or gastrolyte. It could be a general electrolyte imbalance thing. So you could try that if you wanted.
  • Thanks everyone, for all your suggestions,  I’m just sitting here now with the heat bag on my sides it helps, panadol osteo before bed also thinking maybe some deep heat to see if it helps as well, must admit last night was a horrible night, tonight doesn’t seem as bad, made sure I did lots today and tried to keep moving cause I don’t feel it then 😃
  • Heat - I often have a wheat bag on my legs at night
  • When on letrozole my Onc said Panadol Osteo.  I struggled as time went on and my GP gave me Palexia SR which helped the leg pain.
At 6 months Onc said that's no good let's change because as the Palexia wore off the bone pain would start up.

I find a light break hot chocolate helps

    Best wishes
  • Hi @Glynnis. Yes to the Letrozole aches. Like you, sometimes Panadol Osteo works, sometimes it doesn't. When it's the latter I try an anti-inflammatory in combination with paracetemol and that can be effective. When all else fails and the pain is truly awful, at night I take an Endone from my carefully hoarded stash.

You could maybe try a bath before bed with some Epsom Salts, or one of those Radox muscle soaks.

However I am not a doctor! So it's best to have a chat with your GP about what and when to take. K xox
  • Hi @Glynnis Sorry I can’t help as it is not one of my chemicals. Was the Onco not able to suggest anything? It is very frustrating when they do this. I had severe leg pains and only after I purposely took medication I wasn’t allowed did they tell me the cause but couldn’t help. Grrr. I am sure someone on here will have some suggestions. Big hugs.
