  • Hi @Berchel14, sorry to hear you have to go the chemo route but here are a few tips, I just finished 20 weeks of it.

Drink fluids of any kind as much as you can, Water, Cordial, tea, soups, broth, milk, yoghurt etc all add up. Mix it up to prevent feeling like a goldfish, reduce or avoid coffee which can dehydrate, ask your Onco about alcohol -I avoided it myself.

Try to be active as you can within your own limits and rest as required/able. It’s not a sprint it’s a marathon and I found chemo fatigue a major challenge both mental and physical. Do what you can. These are different times temporarily and need different strategies. Don’t compare yourself with others.

Try to focus on one thing everyday that you will feel good about, how ever small.

Do important stuff when you feel ok and then if you crash out it’s not a crisis.

So there’s a few ideas, I have lots more tips for specific issues that I found helpful!  Let us know how you are going!

    Lots of hugs Tinks xx
  • Hello, I finished five months chemo in January. I don’t think you are supposed to dye your hair while you are having chemo. For me the best thing was walking my dogs every day, keeping active made me feel so much better, and it is supposed to relieve symptoms which I believe it did.
@kezmusc is an expert on hair/ cold capping. The cancer council have got a great little book called nutrition and cancer. Have a look at your hospital and or onco’s rooms for one. Great ideas for snacks in there.
    Good luck  x
  • @Blondy - can you help @Berchel14 with a hair colour query?

My husband used to get really tired about 4 days after chemo & would put himself to bed for a couple of days.

Yep, drink heaps of fluids to help wash it out of your system quicker .... and if at any stage you feel really 'off' or get a temp - either contact the Onc Unit or hospital (if out of hours.)

Take care & all the best xx
  • Hi all,  You cannot colour your hair during  cold capping.  They recommend three months after you have finished. That's if you stick to the rules, which I did not. I waited 6 weeks (races day lol) and used the Garnier blonde with no problems.  Lovely @Berchel14 has the run down on all the do's and don'ts.  Thanks for the tag @Caz1xoxo
  • Thanks for your help I really appreciate all I can learn for the best outcome.  Have you had a colour from the hairdressers? or do you still put in the ones from over the counter that wash out? They are telling me I can use them feeling unsure, and did you get your hair cut through the chemo? xx
