Radiation burns

Again Good evening ladies.. I haven't been on for a while  hope you are all as well as possible.. I myself have a very sore boob :( I have 3 radiation treatments to go and couldn't have the mepityl (if thats how you spell it) as I am alergic to adhesives.. so my poor old boob is suffering big time, well not as bad as I have seen.. My nipple broke down a couple of days ago... I am using hald MooGoo and half solugell... and have dressings on to stop it rubbing on everything... how did everyone else deal with this problem

  • I didn't find it got really any worse.  As soon as I hit it with the Flamazene it started to heal pretty fast.  Hope it gets better fast for you.

  • wow ok thanks @kezmusc, the nurse gave me some tubby grip, kind of a boob tube deal, and maybe the solosite is what they gave me yesterday to put under the thick dressing... and then they tell me it will get worse after the rads finish for a bout 2 weeks... but that's ok there are a lot of ladies on here and out there worse off xx
  • HI @Spirit-Harmony,

    I used solosite, which I assume is similar or the same as what you are using.  A non stick dressing over it and the nurses cut up a pair of those cotton gauze disposable hospital undies and made a kind of a bra out of it to keep it all in place.

    I also used some sudocream along the way on the ouchy bits which knocked the heat and sting out of it but is really sticky and hard to get off.
     I continued to use the Moo Goo and a bit of Manuka honey gold cream mixed with it.

    Flamazene after you finish (can't use it during as it has silver in it) really healed it fast.  Almost within the week.

    All the best

    I am SO sorry to hear your skin/nipple is breaking down - I was really lucky & didn't have much burning.

    I hope some of the others may be able to help you with more practical advice ... My Rads nurse suggested putting some saline water in the fridge, soaking a bit of 'kitchen towell' in it & pop that over the boob, as it has a nice cooling effect and the salt in the water is a natural healer ..... but perhaps check with your rads nurse first, before trying it!

    All the best - I hope it starts healing soon.  The 'heat' from the rads will 'continue' for up to a month even after the treatment has finished ..... so this may be one to use after any wounds Finch said:
    @Spirit-Harmony firstly let me say loud and clear that the burns will heal quickly once radiation stops. I, like you burnt badly and I started to panic knowing I still had treatments to go. The nurses told me I would heal quickly but I didn't believe them, thinking they were just trying to reassure me.
    After each treatment I saw the radiation nurse who used only Solugel. I wouldn't use MooGoo until your burns have healed up.   I also had mepitex put on top of the Solugel.  This is not an adhesive but if you are allergic to it I would try Gladwrap cling film .  The aim is to stop the Solugel from drying out and to keep applying it.  My nipple also broke down and I had bad blistering. All the best .  xxxxx
     @Finch thank you x

  • My radiotherapy nurse suggested that taking an antihistamine may help. I've been using cortisone ointment on the sorest bits which seems to take the sting out.
