Neulasta
Hi all, second chemo down and done with, I must say it hasn't been too bad so far. I had to have a Neulasta injection 2 days ago. I have heard a lot of people talking about the side effects, mainly bone pain, I was wondering how long it takes for the Neulasta to take effect if I am going to get bone pain I would like to try and prepare myself for it ( get my head around it ). I am a very positive person and I like to stay strong and positive throughout my treatment, so far I and doing fine, even being bald dose not effect me. I would appreciate any feed back on Neulasta.
Huge hugs to everyone

THANK YOU Karen ?
I suffer from neuralgias plus bone and joint pain (and chronic sciaticca) and try to handle it without meds as have a rubbish liver so knowing that TENS can be used in that way is so helpfull.
My pain plays up with my periods and it seems my period will coincide with Round 2 of Chemo and when they plan to administer Neulasta so kind of been dreading that moment but knowing something like my TENS can help is a blessing.
I know that dreaded top on the leg / inner thigh pain spot too well and it never occured to me to use TENS so again THANK YOU

Hi Jel
the pain in my hips and the top of my legs was pretty strong so I placed the electrodes on my upper buttocks. I found that this helped ease the pain greatly. Good luck. Karen xox

I would get hip pain and neck pain within 24 hours of the neulasta plus a general flu like feeling and upper body tenderness where I felt puffy. My head would literally feel too heavy to hold up. I took panadol osteo 8 hourly which gave more constant pain coverage for about 3 to 4 days. Walking helped the hip pain when it got really bad. I have had neulasta every chemo since my 1st round. So 3 so far. It's hard to tell which is chemo or neulasta related I suppose. But round 2 was much worse than round 1 so I assume it's the neulasta.

For me the worst of the bone pain would hit on night 5 after chemo and the injection next day. It was intense but on the whole it was basically one lousy night and the other times I could pretty much cope with the pain. Pacing around the house massaging my legs did help.

HI Sonia
I was a bit different. I would have the Neulasta on Wednesday and the bone pain would begin on Saturday becoming unbearable on the Sunday and Monday. I would get it mostly in legs, hips and sternum. The sternum pain made my chest feel as if I was having a heart attack. Strong pain killers like endone didn't help me but mild period pain tablets - naprosyn worked a treat.
Good luck with it.

Hi Karen,
Do you mind if I ask how you use / apply the electrodes for pain connected with Neulasta?
I also have a tens machine (severe spinal injury and a disk that got pushed in heaps causing almost immobility at times) but it did not occur to me I could use it if I develop pain with Chemo or NeNeulas so if you do not mind sharing I would be very gratefull ??

Hi Sonia
I had neulastin injections with 5 of my treatments and I got pain about the 24 hour mark which lasted about 5 days. I have a tens machine for pain ( I have another chronic illness as well as arthritis) and I found this along with panadiene extra helped. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have too many side effects. Good luck. Karen xox

Hi
My first few rounds of chemo weren't too bad either. With the Neulasta, the bone pain for me starts about 48 hours after the injection and lasts for a few days. It wasn't too bad with my first few rounds of chemo but was a lot worse my last round (4) - maybe a combination of it and the new chemo drug. A couple of Panadol is all I usually need. I also read somewhere that an antihistamine can help but I'd double check that first.
Well done on keeping up your positivity.
