It's Not Me

Hi Narwoo,
please don't stress about being in the public system. Even in the private system you would have had to wait because of Easter. I finished my 16 months treatment 9 months ago and was in the public system through Box Hill Hospital. I had a lumpectomy, 6 months of chemo, 33 radiotherapy sessions and 12 months of herceptin. I could not fault the care I received. The staff were wonderful, knowledgable, caring and just the most amazing people. I made some wonderful friends with the other patients. If you are open and honest with your care team, they will go out of their way to provide you with everything you will need. Waiting a couple of weeks will not impact your outcomes and it will give your health providers the time to work out what your best options are. The waiting is just awful and all of us have experienced it. Unfortunately it is part of the process. One day at a time! I know we all always say this but it really is the best way to get through this. Hang in there. Karen xox

Thanks everyone
My mum was also diagnosed 8 yrs ago and she came through ok, so hoping I will as well. I also have an identical twin sister who is freaking out thinking she is next. Her mammograms are clear - so far so good.
We haven't been tested for the BRACA gene (i think that is what it is called) but I will ask the specialist when I see him /or her. Both my twin and myself have daughters so it is something to consider. I have also contacted the Australian twin registry and asked to be put in their breast cancer research project. We are already in their breast density one.
Anyway i will try to relax until Tuesday and hope my experience won't be too traumatic (unlike the 6 biopsy's i had)- that was very difficult. .
