So I finished my radiation on July 27. 2 wks after that I developed oedema of the breast and was doing lymph massages with great effect but since Friday my breast has been painful again, last night my breast was so swollen and hard. I got no sleep from the pain. Went to drs and she put me straight on antibiotics and has ordered an ultrasound for 2pm.
Has anyone else had a similar infection? I'm not looking forward to the ultrasound as it is so sore :(

I had a persistent seroma on my mastectomy site. Didn't disperse naturally, didn't disperse with aspirations, and with hindsight I had two mild infections (no pain, flu type symptoms, fever and wooziness) before the really bad infection (pain, swelling etc) that required a week in hospital and surgery to clear out. The ultrasound may hurt but it's sensible, depending on how developed, it may also require some heavy duty antibiotics. But you are doing all you can. I too was using massage to good effect, but don't think I started soon enough to to foil the bad bacteria!! Best wishes for a rapid recovery.

The ultrasound didnt show anything drainable just skin thickening. She isn't sure if it's an infection or lymphodeama. Trying to get hold of my surgeon. Feeling a little down about it :(

Could be cellulitis in which case antibiotics will get it under control very quickly. Good luck tomorrow.
