Tamoxifen and dizziness

Hi,
I have a question about dizziness and tamoxifen.
I have been on Tamoxifen for 19 months now and at first I didn't really have any side effects. But for the past few months I have noticed an increase in the hot flushes and night sweats but my main concern are the dizzy spells. They are now pretty consistent and have been for the past 4 months, every day now and I am also just feeling a little 'off', can't put my finger on it but just a bit fuzzy in the head!? Forgetting things, lack of concentration etc.
I think I am going to stop taking it for a few days and see if that makes a difference, if that doesn't work then I will try taking it at a different time of day.
Has anyone else experienced dizziness coming on after this length of time. Does anyone have any other suggestions that I can try?
Thanks

Hi @jewhite, I've been on Tamoxifen now for a little over 12 months and was having some mega dizzy spells when I was laying down going to bed. Found myself hugging the hallway wall a couple of times too. I noticed that its much worse when I have a cold so think my middle ear might be being affected. Am currently being monitored by my gp for cholesterol and blood pressure levels and my hot flushes have also increased. I'm not too worried about the flushes and the dizziness seems to be lessening. Wishing you all the best with your symptoms. Xx0

Hi socoda, thanks for the reply. I have to admit I thought it might be a middle ear infection. Will check in with my GP when he gets back from his holidays!

I suffer dizziness however my full bloods test found my thyroid was up the put and dizziness and very dry skin and tiredness are all part of thyroid trouble. Now who'd thought when those symptoms are also part of side effects from treatment.1

Yes dizziness can be a side effect. Low blood pressure can also do it. That's the maddening thing about Tamoxifen, the effects are not consistent in all of us and they come and go so we tend to just try and live through it. Be extra careful on stairs.1

@jewhite seems strange if you've been on Tamoxifen that long that these new symptoms would be presenting now and would most likely not be. Id check with your GP and also your Oncologist. I was on it for 4 yrs with no side effects not that i noticed but was pre menopausal, that seems to make a big difference. Chemo impacted so very many things for me in side effects and recovery and ongoing symptoms. Chemo brain for instance is very real but I am learning that it really does dissipate, my brain after 20 months has finally kicked back into gear. So definitely get it checked out! Could well be something completely different. hugs x1

@melclarity, thanks for the reply. I guess that is my concern, the time I have been on it and had no dizziness, then all of a sudden I do. I have an appointment booked so we shall see what my GP says. I was fortunate that I didn't need chemo, but I am glad that you are feeling better now, the treatments certainly knock you around don't they.
Take care1 -
I think new symptons after the length of time you have been on it is unlikely so this problem needs to be investigated by your GP. Kath x1

Let us know how you go with the GP. xx M1

I will let you know how I get on, but my usual GP is away until the end of the month so I will have to wait until then to see him. Thanks everyone for the comments, they have been a good support.0

Ive been on tamoxifen for couple months now have some dizziness n sweats but I ewouldnt suggest stop talking them ask ur onc all the best x0

Thanks @nannatash I haven't stopped the tamoxifen just yet as I have some blood tests coming up and I want a 'true' reading. My concern is that the dizziness has come on 15months after I started taking it, I need to find out if this is normal or not, which it may well be.
The night sweats are awful aren't they, hopefully they are bearable for you and are not stopping you sleeping
Good luck with everything1 -
I have not taken Tom as I'm TNBC. I finished active treatment last July 2016. I'm on holidays at present on my daughters farm near Mackaville staying in a caravan by a river, so beautiful but have experience dizziness and ringing in my ears over the last few days. Wondering if it's some tree or bush growing near where we are staying. Or what it is. It's really awful.
will be interested what your Dr says. Take care.
