    I was prescribed Movicol initially but a friend of mine who is an oncology nurse advised that this can sometimes be too brutal on your body as you need to drink an awful lot of water to get things moving - considerably more than what is recommended for a healthy diet.

    I sprinkle bran on my cereal each morning and a handful of almonds for morning tea (as per @Afraser suggestions),
      
    For really stubborn constipation, she recommended Dulcolax drops at night in a glass of water and found that managed to shift things just as @Anniepan suggested.

    As a daily ritual I had a full glass of water every day with a teaspoon of "Benefiber". See these links -

    Hope this helps as it can be so painful (in addition to everything else going on in your body).
