though Id start this post as I was at work yesterday and was listening to the radio and I'm still standing came on....  Even though its more about a past bad relationship some of the lyrics made me sing out loud!! During my recovery I had a lot of support from people who I didn't think I would and virtually none from one in particular who I have been friends with for 30 years and I spoke to in the first days of my diagnosis and she's never contacted me since so was thinking of her and others who are on the "what you shouldn't say to breast cancer survivors" post  when I heard this song yesterday what do you think?? thought we could all post songs that have helped during our treatment etc. Hope its not too cliché. Margie

Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah

and of course Katie perry was on after that....

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake your ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
'Cause I am the champion, and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar!

Now I'm floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
'Cause I am the champion, and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

I believe that music gets us through lots of things.  My hubby and I have fond memories of Elton John Rocket Man, it was being played everywhere at the time when we went off on our first weekend away together, before we were married, much to the dislike of parents (it was the era) and now when we hear it playing we both have a smile and it transports us back to that weekend!

Music has the ability to relax and float you in a better space!

@onemargie - sorry you lost your friend of 30 years, I lost one as well as - turns out perhaps mine wasn't such a good friend after all!

@onemargie BRILLIANT IDEA!!! Music would be the core of alot for me always has been, particularly lyrics. When I found through Chemo I was at my wits end and ready to give up, I was so ill and Im not embarrassed to say it, I was completely soul destroyed and wanted out of it all. A friend sent me this...and I got a fire in my belly and I DID RISE!!!

    Katy Perry - Rise

    KATY PERRY LYRICS

    "Rise"

    I won't just survive
Oh, you will see me thrive
    Can't write my story
    I'm beyond the archetype

    I won't just conform
No matter how you shake my core
'Cause my roots—they run deep, oh

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don't doubt it, don't doubt it
    Victory is in my veins
I know it, I know it
    And I will not negotiate
I'll fight it, I'll fight it
    I will transform

When, when the fire's at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They're whispering, "You're out of time,"
    But still I rise

This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in
    Think again
    Don't be surprised
    I will still rise

    I must stay conscious
    Through the madness and chaos
So I call on my angels
    They say

Oh, ye of so little faith
Don't doubt it, don't doubt it
    Victory is in your veins
You know it, you know it
    And you will not negotiate
Just fight it, just fight it
    And be transformed

'Cause when, when the fire's at my feet again
And the vultures all start circling
They're whispering, "You're out of time,"
    But still I rise

This is no mistake, no accident
When you think the final nail is in
    Think again
    Don't be surprised
    I will still rise

Don't doubt it, don't doubt it
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
You know it, you know it
    Still rise
Just fight it, just fight it
    Don't be surprised
    I will still rise

I love Katy Perry and also that other song.

At my lowest I found much comfort in the music by Mussorgsky called Pictures at an exhibition, specifically the linking bits called the Promenades. He wrote it after his close friend died young in a short burst on intensive pain and creativity.  It's very inspiring and strong.  The English progressive rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, released in November 1971 a modern version.
