Invasion of the body snatcher
So all week I have been taking neurofen to dull a persistently throbbing tooth. In my heart of hearts I know I have to make a dentist appointment. But you know what? I was diagnosed end April, double mastectomy a fortnight later, reconstruction 3 weeks ago. Amidst all that I had root canal and a tooth extraction. And I’m over it. I’m over being poked and prodded and jabbed with needles. I’m over everybody else having charge of my body (even though I know it’s for my own good!). It took me a while to realise why I was stalling, but that’s it, I just want to be the only person taking care of me for a while. I know it’s irrational, and on Monday I will make the appointment...but in the meantime I’ll pop the pills and just “be”. Just venting - anyone else felt the same?

- Beryl_C_MemberI enjoy the honesty expressed in these posts - its seven years now and I am so over being examined, baring all to complete strangers, scanned, zapped (radiation), cut, infused etc., in fact, I am 'procedured out!' Yes, all of this keeps me alive but a few years ago I became aware that when I entered the hospital I felt normal - what? I reflected on this and came to the conclusion that I knew I was getting excellent care and the staff took things in their stride, I didn't have to pay any attention to their responses, they know what to say and do. Its different with family and friends. For the next two weeks I do not have an appointment at the hospital! What in the h..... does all this do to our thinking and view of the world? My sister is planning a cruise and my other sister phones to tell me about drinks with a couple of cousins and I'm over the moon because I don't have a medical appointment! What!?
- SarnicadMember@arpie it was just the shock of it being a different person from what I was expecting now I know it could be another random I’ll be prepared that I’m flashing to half of Footscray
- arpieMemberWell done you, @Mimsy68 Sounds like he was not too worried about the throbbing - and hope the filling does the trick!
@Sarnicad - all the best for your rads ..... I sorta got used to showing my bits to all & sundry - cos I had different people most days! LOL Does that make me an exhibitionist? ;) - Mimsy68MemberSo there you go, braved the dentist....I told him that if he said the words root canal I would cry and I would then say no! Luckily just a filling it seems. Funny how I was so strong all through my diagnosis and surgery and now I’m being a big girl’s blouse! I can’t even imagine having to do radio and chemo, you guys are Uber strong! Big hugs to you all, thank you for supporting me in my vent!
- SarnicadMemberI started rads today and two techs set me up and got me organised but at the end it was one of the techs I had at the start and another different one which threw me as suddenly another random was seeing my boob. I was stressed enough just starting today didn’t really need that surprise!
yep I’m over every man and his dog looking at me touching me and discussing me - ZoffielMemberBlocking it out is fine. Deal with it on the day, getting all twisted about it now just wastes time that could be better spent doing just about anything else. Mxx
- VangirlMember@Blossom1961 I blocked out the fact of the surgery for as long as I possibly could. I feel like it was the only way to get through all the other treatments. I don't know if there is anything wrong with crossing that bridge when you come to it.
- kmakmMember@Blossom1961 My heart goes out to you, it really is a wretched disease. Bloody awful. Hang in there and I hope the next few weeks go swiftly. K xox
- Blossom1961Member@Vangirl I started my treatment mid May and am having my mastectomy/anxiallary clearance in November. I am already so over the pain pushed upon me I am blocking the operation out. I realise this isn't healthy but just at the moment I don't care.
- Blossom1961MemberI so get this. I hate going to the dentist but even if I loved going I would hate it at the moment. I too am sick of the poking and prodding. I too want control of what is happening. I too want to punch the next person who hurts me unnecessarily. Just writing this post makes me want to cry over what I no longer have control over. Sometimes I want to shout at the medical person "I am me!"
