Scan day freaking sucks......yet again. Probable curse words included.
With only minor trepidation and my shit mostly together I went to clinic today to get my results. I stopped to give a co worker that had just been diagnosed (MOFO BC) a hug and a shoulder to cry on for a bit while we were waiting. I heard my name called and promised her she would get through and I would be happy to help if I could in any way. She thanked me with that smile you put on when you are trying so hard not to burst into tears and your heart is aching as I waltzed on in to the doctors office.
Well the whole thing went sideways and turned into me leaving work in a shaky, teary eyed mess. My goodness this thing still rocks you when least expect it.
Here we go again with another fucking ambiguous result about the mystical eliptical thingamajjigy that has taken up residence in the rogue boob. Said thingy has decided to grow 2mm in 6 months. BIRAIDS score now moved up from a 3 to a 4 and hey lets poke a needle in it this time. This presents a problem. Considering the MRI is still the only machine that can see thingy (again it can't be felt by anyone either) and it's positioning, it is probable that a biopsy can't be done in the MRI machine. Still waiting on an answer for that one.
So do we just poke around in there and try to hit it?? Cut it out or off just for the heck of it?
No body is prepared to say it is anything sinister nor are they prepared to say it's not.
Seriously, can someone please tell me how, for the love of god, you can have 4 MRI's, 4 mammograms and 6 u/sounds in a period of 12 months and still not know what this is or isn't.
So as it sits, back to headlining the MDT on Thursday to get input from group of guru's as quote "my breast don't scan normally". Another targetted u/s on Friday. And wait for an answer on whether the biopsy can be done by MRI.
Waiting waiting waiting yet again. Fuckity fuck fuck. I am sick of this roller coaster. I want to get off and my money back.
Mental status right now = somewhere between zoned out numbness and seriously pissed off.
Strongly considering ostrich tactics at the moment.
Thanks for listening. :/

- Anne65Member@kamada @Nefertari I have posted this on "Cancerversary" but I know a few on here wanted to know my results so i've copied it!
Well, after my busy day of medical appointments yesterday, i am pleased to announce my mammo came back clear so I can tick off 2 years cancer free!! Oh the feeling of walking into that mammo room brings it all back like it was yesterday & the fact that it is adjoined to the hospital where I had surgery, lots of memories. I had my mammo at 10.45, then walked 5 mins to my BC surgeons office & at 11.30 I had the results. Not bad hey! The reason it is so quick is that there is a qualified radiologist permanently on site to review, check & report on all mammograms & then they scan/email the results straight to the surgeon who is 2 doors down. My surgeon was very happy & again, I dont have to see her for another 12 months.
I had my skin cancer check in the morning..all clear & then i had my first lymphoedema screening in the arvo & that came back normal so a very good day all round. The lymphoedema screening was at Lift Cancer care Services which i learnt about following on from the BCNA conference. Very interested to learn about the disease & unlike cancer, the risk doesnt lessen as each year passes so you never know when or if it is going to strike. Luckily, I am at low risk as I didnt have chemo, nodes removed or have large breasts but due to the fact that i had rad treatment, it increases the risk very slightly. Next checkup is 6 months time to see if there is any change.
Coincidentally, while driving around between appts, , my McGrath Breast care nurse rang for a chat & catchup! We both agreed that as I am doing so well, I will now go off her books to make way for others. She can focus on those who need her the most, those who are actively going through treatment or newly diagnosed. She will still be there if i need her which is a comforting thought & she said to ring/email her anytime.
As I am from the country, my initial cancer was detected from one of the remote mobile breastscreen buses that travel around rural areas & they visit every 2 years. My nurse reminded me that she will now have a fresh batch of patients to care for as the bus has just visited my area again. Very sad thought but hopefully they will be lucky like me with their "journey" & they will have a lovely BC nurse to look after them.
To top it all off, i got my national Bowel cancer test kit in the post today!
So another year gone & ticked off successfully. I again feel very blessed to have been one of the few lucky ones who has gone through very smoothly. I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off but they havent yet!!
Thanks to all of you for your thoughts & good wishes leading up to my anniversary. It is so comforting to know that others are thinking of you.
I pray for those doing it tough, that they can find support here & with those close to them & lets hope that 2020 brings strength, love, smiles & hugs to those who need it the most. Love to you all xxxx - SisterMemberAll of us make mistakes at some time, but really? I guess that's the thing though, isn't it? Having the experience and empathy to know how your attention to detail (or lack of it) can make a difference to someone else's life.
I'll join you next time at the pool @kezmusc (even if only in my mind)! - arpieMemberOUCH! I am so sorry you stabbed your foot! Those bloody palm frond things are horrible! Have you (or someone else) been able to get it out now? You don't want it to become infected :( Maybe soak it in warm salty water to encourage it to come out, if not?
Oooh - Southern Comfort - haven't had that for a few years now! When I head north (maybe next year!) - we can imbibe a few around the pool, & play our ukuleles? ;)
Yep, a cardiologist - my Rad Onc couldn't work it out either - and she has the most legible writing of ANY Dr that I've ever seen!
Good on you now re your referrals ...... I must do the same (and add any other names to it that I feel should get a copy!)
Take care, stay safe . xxx - kezmuscMemberMany thanks again lovelies for your support. The wine and pool was excellent.
Except I decided to move a couple of dead date palm leaves that had fallen down (these things have huge spikes on the end) dropped one on my foot and the spike speared straight into my foot and broke off. I tried to get it out and nearly fainted. So I have a huge swollen foot, can't walk and am dissapointed I won't be able to wear my sparkly shoes to dinner tonight. OMG. No wonder I hate gardening.
@arpie, I don't drink bundy but am very partial to a bottle of Southern Comfort. Cardiologist? Really?
@Anne65 , Yes, I had a hookwire the first time around. Definitely an unpleasant experience as they had to double check the positioning with a mammogram after it was in. Nasty stuff alright.
For light relilef @Afraser ...hahahha love it. They just don't get how "Dr to see" can conjure up nightmares when they aren't needed.
Anyhow as far as referals going into cyberspace....we are talking about the birthday cake people for those that remember that joke.
This sort of shit has made me one of the most dilligent admin people around I reckon. I ask the doctors to personally hand me all referrals. I email them to myself as well (along with the sent confirmations) as to where they are to go and follow up with a phone call within 2 hours if I haven't heard anything back or can't see the apt on the system.
Have a great day ladies. Mother nature is about to crank up the heat here today. Again. - kamadaMember@kezmusc What a god awful saga you poor darling! Hope finding the bottom of that bottle eases the stress levels. 😘
- AfraserMemberFor light relief.......I had a routine colonoscopy two weeks ago after a first one in 2011 (home test positive, polyp, all fine then bc 12 months later!). A new polyp, surgeon happy but routine biopsy, GP to be advised. Wasn’t fussed about not hearing anything, wasn’t worried but then decided I should not be slack and check with GP. My biopsy result is annotated with ‘Dr to see’. No one can give me any info.
You all know that feeling in the stomach? Doctor not back till Tuesday, made an appt then rang back to say someone must be able to tell me NOW? 2 hr wait but all is perfectly fine. Note means Dr will see me and give me the report next time I am in. Ah, those little things are sent to try us. Next time, I will ask for the results to go to me please, the body in question! Good luck, hope all your outcomes are finally as straightforward. - Anne65Member@kezmusc I know i will be enjoying a bottle of wine with tea tonight but i reckon you have earnt a couple!! Cant believe the admin nightmare you are in.....well, I guess i can! Gone are the days when you could post a letter to someone & they would get it! Nowadays with more technology, emails, scanners, it seems things go missing or never get there. Seriously my lovely, you have the best attitude, cool off by the pool, drink wine & let the "professionals" sort it out! i do hope they can do the US the simplest way for you & not the hookwire. I had one of those & it hurt like hell. One wonders, like you said, how much can a boob bear!! Wires, needles, pokes, prods & squeezes.......have another glass of wine & dive in the pool to cool off. Hang in there & keep us informed on how your "Days of our Lives" turns out??!! Love & hugs xx
- arpieMemberFUCKITY FUCK indeed, @kezmusc - drink all the wine you need!! I've got some Bundy Rum, if it would suit you better??
OMG - your current soap opera is SO mimicking my own this time last year, with so much incompetence by the so-called professionals it is just NOT funny! I know exactly how you feel!
We are normally pretty strong, resilient women who have coped with everything thrown at us so far - and can brush off the odd 'hiccup' .... but when it comes to major stuff-ups with our BC reviews treatments/processes - it really is not acceptable.
Something 'relatively simple' has become 'something almost impossible in a different city, by a different person' and the stress levels are raised beyond acceptable. :( Put it all in writing & send it to your most trusted team member - surgeon, Onc or Rad Onc ... Stuff it - send it to ALL of them - so they are aware of exactly what is going on.
Funnily enough, my most recent scans (3 weeks ago, after NOT being sent to my GP for over 2 weeks) were eventually sent to a specialist Cardiologist instead of my BC surgeon as they reckoned they couldn't read the writing on the referral! Ummmm ... they had heaps of my previous referrals/scans to check the correct names ...... and didn't even query why it should go to a fucking cardiologist! HELLO!? Are they all fucking stupid? That would be a big fat YES! - NefertariMember@kezmusc and @Anne65 , I have everything crossed for both of you, I will throw in a few warm crushing hugs as well.
The bungling administration really adds so much extra stress, I wish they would understand that! - Beryl_C_MemberKezmusic - what? Your head must be spinning! The bottle of wine by the pool is a very sane and self nurturing decision given the utter madness you are dealing with. Your dry sense of humour will get you through this although 'this' should not happen! Enjoy your glass or two of wine!
