- AnonymousI'm so sorry @LMK74 that was the worst thing for me to say. It's lovely chatting to you and I hope I haven't made you feel worse. @iserbrown thinking of you too. xx
- iserbrownMember@LMK74 my heart goes out to you. My Mum had passed and she was one that I needed a hug from. Oh dear!
Take care and hoping a virtual hug will help xx - LMK74MemberThanks@LucyE, I would love nothing more than a hug from my mum but unfortunately yesterday was the 2yr anniversary of her passing. She is the one person I've needed most and I miss her with all my heart. It gives me comfort being able to talk here with all you lovelies.
- AnonymousHi @LMK74 sorry I tagged the wrong person! Am on some painkillers myself and a bit absent minded. You take care of yourself, make sure you take in your iPad, or something trashy to read. :) Just remember be kind to yourself. You're doing a great job and it's such a difficult time. Having a good cry helped me to feel better and a hug from my mum when I woke up from surgery was the best. xx
- LMK74Member@LucyE, I hope pain won't be too bad. I know some have said they didn't have a lot of pain which I will keep in my mind. Just wish it was all over.
- iserbrownMemberHi! I was like @Afraser - hardly any pain after mastectomy and they presumed I needed pain killers but my obs were soon normal and I settled quickly. It sounds worse than what it is in my view! Yes the breast is missing but so is what they were chasing that damned cancer! They gave me a pillow and drain bag so when I had visitors I was in my PJs with a large scarf over my shoulders and draped across my breasts and drain bag underneath the scarf and the visitors were quizzical as it wasn't obvious - just how I like it! Yes it was tiring but I wouldn't say painful, perhaps draining (ha ha!) - my drains came out on day 5.
Good luck and I am sure it is the anxiety of what it represents that is more of a concern for most.
Take care - Anonymous@Lillian67 I can completely understand why you are scared, but my mastectomy and auxiliary clearance were not very painful at all and I had expected them to be. I'm not a huge fan of the drains. If you do get pain they will make sure that you have enough pain relief. The breast care nurses were amazing and one of them sat with me and held my hand why I had a cry the next day, when I was feeling low. All the best with it. I hope you have some support from family and friends. It must seem like such a long wait. x
- AfraserMemberIt may differ from person to person but I had very little pain (mastectomy and axillary clearance). They kept trying to give me painkillers and I didn't need them. I tripped over my drains a couple of times, which was ouchy, but found I could put them in my dressing gown pockets and that was much better. Best wishes, hope it all goes well.
- LMK74Member@Lillian67, im getting scared already as I'm booked for mastectomy 15 August and full axillary clearance. I'm trying not to think about how much pain will be involved afterwards. Hope you start to feel better soon.
- AnonymousWow, sounds busy.
