- AfraserMemberWasn't in a ward! Very busy and my room had 2 beds so.....I did get moved back into a private room 2 days later, but...
- AnonymousI've always had a private room and still got no sleep. The nurses would wake me up for obs which was fine, all part of the territory, but then comment on how I wasn't getting much sleep. Not sure I can complain too much compared to having to be on a ward!
- AfraserMemberNo-one, but no-one, gets a rest in hospital. Once I shared a room with a rather strange lady who left her TV on all night! 24 hours. No amount of hinting got her to turn it down or off so I was forced to complain. Which made me feel like the inconsiderate one. Most nurses are great if overworked, but quite a few are useless at canulas or taking blood, and I have had to learn to get a bit stroppy - at one time I was getting 4 blood tests a week. In that circumstance you can't afford to have everyone taking 5 goes!
- Lillian67MemberOh I know @Unicornkisses this morning the nurse walks in, flicks the switch for everyone's lights at 6am and yells good morning! Regardless with who was actually awake.
i just had an attack of awful stabbing pain that had me crunched over and crying. The nurse checked my chart and then asked why my pain med level had been reduced during the night. Turns out the male nurse took it in himself to reduce the level. No wonder I've been up since 2am because I can't sleep due to pain. Now waiting for the real drugs to kick in so I can move :( - UnicornkissesMemberMy right one comes off in 3 weeks, along with the lymph nodes.
The only good nights sleep I got in hospital was with the help of a Tamaze tablet.
If it wasn't the drip malfunctioning in the guy across the hall and beeping frantically every half hour at least, it was one of the elderly ladies' enema finally working after 5 days in the early hours of the morning, which generated lights on and frantic bed changing.
And since when did a hospital ward become party central?
I thought you spoke quietly and considerately so you didn't disturb the sick people!
I must be getting old and crabby. - Lillian67MemberYes definitely no rest here. I'm in with 3 other ladies and with all the obs being fine, visitors and such there is no rest. The nurses areivrly but as usual so over worked.
I do have the bonus of being near a window and get to enjoy the glorious afternoon sun - TennilleMemberI only have a leftie. His name is 'Bob'
- socodaMemberYayyyyyyyy @Lillian67. (Not that you've got one boob but that you have had your surgery). At least its another thing to tick off the list and get closer to no more treatment. It gets better!! Big gentle hug. Xx Cath
- AnonymousI have had drains for 3 ops. One time they were hitting nerves and it was the worst pain. Make sure you keep up your pain medication.
- ZoffielMemberI think 'Well now I have one boob' says it all very nicely. Plain, minimalist even, but succinct and to the point.
Those of us who know how that feels need no more information, those who don't should treasure their lack of knowledge.
Saying 'rest' to someone in a hospital is a bit cruel (as if they will let you) but you've done the really hard part, be kind to yourself if you can.
