Newly Diagnosed

Hi

My name is Victoria, I'm 42 years old and I have been newly (well, 5.5 weeks ago) diagnosed with breast cancer. It is is located underneath the nipple on my left breast and it is invasive ductal carcinoma, ER+, PR- HER2-, Stage Two. (Sorry if I don't have all the details but that is what I have interpreted it as). The tumor is 2.5 cm.

I have seen my surgeon twice and I will be having a single mastectomy next week some time followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. We had discussed a lumpectomy so he could try and save the nipple but I opted for the mastectomy, just for a clean break.

I'm dealing with it okay- I'm a bit concerned I haven't cried yet- and everyone else around me is very supportive and very shocked.

I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully be able to contribute something to these groups.

Thank you

Victoria

  • Hi Victy83, it's OK that you didn't cry. I didn't cry either and this is my 1st post as well. Diagnosed early Feb, had a lumpectomy (on my 61st birthday) and now waiting for radiation therapy. I had IDC, 21mm, ER+, PR+, HER2- and DCIS on right side. Sounds like you have supportive family/friends and have reached out to this group. Good on you. All the best with your upcoming treatment.

  • Hi Victy83,  I've just joined the group too. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago, initially with Stage 0 DCiS. Surgery was a lumpectomy and couple of lymph nodes removed, as the surgeon suspected it might be more. I had not cried up until the surgery, since I felt relieved that it had been chopped out of my body. My emotions were quite raw after surgery, but my family have been very understanding.

Then they found a very small invasive tumour,  which is triple negative.  Then I cried and couldn't stop! I made the mistake of reading too much online, which completely stressed me out, so my advice would be to only use respected websites.

I hope your surgery and recovery is as easy as possible.

    Take care,

    Fee

  • I just joined the group too! I was diagnosed with invasive lobular cancer in my right breast, had biopsy MRI,and then when I got the results of the MRI They said there were shadows in my left breast... so more biopsy to find out i have pre cancerous calcifications that will turn to cancer soon!! So now I have to have a double mastectomy on 5th June!! Wish me luck 🙏

      Hi 130655

All the best for your journey.  There are 2 private groups on here you could join - remaining flat  /  recon group that could be quite helpful with any questions you have.  I had a double mastectomy with immediate recon Nov 24. If you have any specific questions about the dmx, I'm happy to answer.

Welcome 130655, Will be thinking of you on June the 5th. I’m 12 months post double mastectomy, so please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions etc. I’m about to go back under to have excess breast tissue removed that was left after my mastectomy 🥴🥴I made the decision to stay flat and it was the right decision for me😊I love being flat.

There is lots of info on this site read when you feel up to it. All the best.

  • I had my double mastectomy 12 days ago and am back on the waiting game for chemo etc. Grade 2 ILC ER/PR+ Her2- largest tumor was 9.5cm it was along wait and that was challenging but only got upset/teary a couple of times it doesn't mean things aren't difficult. It's just what can you do...
