To shave or not to shave!

Hi Karen, thank-you.... It seems to be around the day 14 mark when the hair starts to drop out. I absolutely appreciate you sharing your experience with me and others that may be starting out.

I've just read the comments and had pretty similar experiences.  I had AC treatment 3 weeks ago.  After having shoulder length hair for so long, I had a pixie cut before anything happened.  Day 14 - my hair started to fall out and feel like a molting cat.  I've trimmed the longer bits myself and fortunately it's winter so it's great beanie weather to catch stray hairs.  I've got a selection of hats (Russian one is fun in the cold), beanies and scarves.  I've looked at a few you tube clips on how to tie scarves different ways (there's also some on pinterest).  I've found my scalp is really sensitive and sore, tried a warm scalp massage in shower and olive oil! 

Tomorrow, I'm heading back for #2 chemo and going to investigate their wig library for some ideas.  All the best with your first chemo (tomorrow?) Karen xx

Oh wow Lindyloo, we will be able to compare notes as we go through with being on the same cycle. 

My hair is a very short bob anyway so will wait and see as to when the first hair drops out....it will all be gone lol!

Good luck with your chemo. My first one is this Thursday. I've already had my shoulder length, thick hair, cut into a pixie cut. When it does start to fall out I will get my husband to shave it off. Both my daughters are keen to help haha. I also got a wig from the cancer council and lots of beanies and scarves. They were brilliant. Recommend you see them. 

Im already finding that it takes no time to get ready in the morning, no longer having to blow dry my hair every day and because it was so thick it took ages!

best of luck. Let us know what day yours falls out. I will count the days too. Someone mentioned 17 days after first chemo, so we shall see.

Thank-you Tracey, I have bought 5 different hats from but needing to return 2 as they are way too big now so will swim on my head once the hair is gone. I've chosen not to go down the wig path.  

Hoping you are doing OK and not finding things too difficult. 

Hi Rowdy, thank-you... I think it's the waiting and unknown that is the hardest to deal with at the moment.

Hi Quest, I made sure that I had my hats and wig ready, and just as well, because I lost heaps of hair 2 weeks after my first chemo. I asked my hubby to clipper the rest as it was really bald in spots and patchy in others. I purchased a little cotton cap from the wig shop, and that has been fantastic for catching the remaining hair as it has fallen out. Sounds like you have a great approach to your next step. Hi my hair stated to fall out after second chemo, it was falling out in clumps. I went to the hairdresser where I brought my wig and she cut it. My head did get infected and was very sore for a couple of days  I did cry and found it very confronting but I got over that quickly as there were other things going on. You decide when you are ready, good luck with your chemoxx

Thanks Paula, this has certainly been a huge learning curve and with so much more to learn.....as far as my hair is concerned, I get totally bored with it - at least I won't have to think about how I want it cut.  Hoping all is well with you x
