From Sorbolene to Solugel

Hi everyone,

I am 8 days having finished radiation treatment and was feeling good in as far as no skin burning or breaking skin. I used my creams every day and was travelling well. That is until 3 days ago.The medical staff did warn me that the radiation  and reactions can intensify up to 3 weeks after treatment finishes.

Well I have spent most of this week so far going back to the hospital and getting my now " breaking skin" under the breast checked and having the dressings changed. I have stocked up on "Solugel" and other things they have given me. Gosh, I seemed to be really going well before the skin started hurting afew days ago.

Oh well never mind, I will deal with this too and hopefully in afew weeks I won't have this pain and the healing will have started.

  • wow.  we have all had so many experiences with radiation yet somewhat similar!  I also had pain killers for chest pain and tightness and it's true - 1 to 2 years for full healing (although externally it was just weeks) . My breast is unfortunately permanently discoloured from the treatment because I have such fair skin but I've had pimples that have left worse scars!  And the pain is nothing - twinges every now and then, just enough to remind me to be more careful perhaps?

Once you see a little improvement you'll feel much better and even more positive - look at how far you've each come already.  Well done us! s

  • The radiotherapy staff did warn me last week when I finished treatment that the next 1 to 2 weeks side affects from radiation could intensify. Well, what a bugger it sure did 4 days after finishing. Solugel is helping and I change the dressing about 4 times a day although I have gone to my hospital this week and the nurses have checked me out too. It happens and all we can do is give it the time to heal. I have been taking panadol and so far the pain has been manageable. My chest pain is a concern but hopefully it will be sorted out next week when I see the doctor. I wore a special bra moulded to my breasts when I had the radiation treatment so it protected areas that were not going to get radiation. I was clipped into it every time so I couldn't move and I was on my back lying on that metal bed so it's not like I may have moved and stretched nerves near my chest or rib cage.

Anyway, hopefully as the weeks go on I will heal properly but I will see the radiotherapy staff at the hospital again next week and take it from there. You are so right when you say that "everyone is different". I met so many ladies today at an all day information forum and we spoke on lots of things including treatment. It was a real eye opener.

Take care, and best wishes to you too in your recovery.

  • I also have about 8 tubes of Solugel at home and I am putting lots on my breast. Like you, I have had the nurses change the dressing for most of this week and I will go back and  see them on Monday. But they have shown me what todo so I should be okay. The nurses have also told me to take panadol for the chest pain I have at the moment and that it's more than likely because of the radiotherapy and the chest muscles. But I will be seeing my doctor next week and should get some answers there. I am also feeling a tightness under the armpit and was told to put plenty of Solugel there too. I guess side affects are to be expected but didn't think I would be having them so soon after finishing. But I have already read where ladies have still been experiencing pain from radiation 1 or even 2 years after treatment finishes. So we will see how it goes.

    Take care

  • Thanks susie, I am applying the Solugel like I have never applied anything before.  lol   It's soothing and feels great but I just didn't expect my skin under the radiated breast to change so quick. From sore, and redness for most of the 5 weeks which was fine, to a blistering breaking skin 4 days after radiation finished. I also have chest tightness and some pain in the middle of my chest so I am taking panadol as suggested to me by the radiation staff. I will be seeing the doctor next week so hopefully I will get some more answers especially regarding my chest pain.

    Best wishes to you too.

    Take care

  • i had similiar expeirence but no pain at all--but bought 6 tubes of solugel and really put it on with gauze over---i thought it was fantastic product ; i had nurses change dressing and i think that contributed to wellbeing and recovery

i wasnt a fan of sorbolene but they got a titch cranky with moogoo; we seemed to find healling middle ground with solugel..i think the radiation oncologist mentioned i might need pain medication but i did have any pain but that might be worth exploring
