wow. we have all had so many experiences with radiation yet somewhat similar! I also had pain killers for chest pain and tightness and it's true - 1 to 2 years for full healing (although externally it was just weeks) . My breast is unfortunately permanently discoloured from the treatment because I have such fair skin but I've had pimples that have left worse scars! And the pain is nothing - twinges every now and then, just enough to remind me to be more careful perhaps?
Once you see a little improvement you'll feel much better and even more positive - look at how far you've each come already. Well done us! s
