Cold Cap Experience
You can see I'm back with a vengeance... I was offered cold caps at the same place I would be having the chemo, at no extra cost or runaround so I decided to give it a go if I could tolerate it. I'm not hung up on losing my hair but know that it would make everything a little bit gentler for the kids (and partner) and if I could manage it and the extra time it takes, no problems. The day of the disastrous non-chemo, about the only thing that wasn't a problem was the cold cap - whether it wasn't on really firmly or I was just so traumatised from the preceding 6 hours, who knows... Jump 3 days to second try at chemo and I found the cap only just bearable. I've still got a couple of weeks to see if it has had the desired effect but I really hate having the greasy feeling of the conditioner-washed hair hanging around my face and I look like one of the lesser-groomed side characters on Midsomer Murders. So, I'm starting to assemble fors and againsts.
I know from reading everyone's posts that when their hair falls out and grows back, the texture, colour and spread can be quite different from how it was before.
I'm sure that even with cold caps (and I know even if successful there's likely to be thinning) there will be changes to the hair. Of those of you who have used them, how would you compare your hair to before, immediately after chemo course, and further down the track?

- Kiwi_AngelMember@kmakm no problems. I normally don’t bother making the pesto with the vegan soup and I try to make my own pasta - much healthier and leaves u feeling better afterwards. Only about 22 in Sydney at the moment but supposed to get up to 28.
- kmakmMember@"Kiwi Angel" Brilliant! I have to cook for two vegetarians, and my son's new (first! So sweet) girlfriend is vegetarian too. I'm mad for a soup. 29° here today though! I'll make these next week I reckon. Thank you!
- Kiwi_AngelMember@kmakm that’s the lentil Bolognese. I’ll try and find the links for them.

Is there a link for that soup recipe? Or is it one you made up? What's the dish with the basil leave? Yum! - Kiwi_AngelMember@kmakm - all just a waiting game - your poor fingers
- Kiwi_AngelMemberProblems posting again. @kmakm - all just a waiting game - your poor fingers

- kmakmMember@"Kiwi Angel" My nail beds were slightly sore in the second week of my first cycle of TC for a few days. In the second cycle they were more sore at the same time but for a few days longer. In the third cycle they were sorer again at the same time but never went away. And now, in the fourth cycle, the pain got worse again in the second week. Early in the fourth cycle the discolouration started on some of my finger and toe nails.
But we're all different, it may not happen to you. Fingers crossed, though not mine... ow!
Your soup sounds good! - Kiwi_AngelMemberWhen do the hand/finger/feet things generally kick in if they are going to?? Painted my nails dark to try and protect the nail beds so will see if that works. Feel a little foggy today and tired but still managing to carry on pretty much as normal. Just cooking a lentil, barley, vegetable soup. It will be good to be free of the horrible toxins - do u know how long they actually take to get out of the body and hen u finish??
- kmakmMember@"Kiwi Angel" Yes! Very annoying. But strictly speaking I'm still within the three week cycle at the moment. Come next Tuesday, Day 22, it's brand new territory! I'll be free of the chemo cycle for the first time since early Jan. Mostly I hope my hands and fingers stop hurting sooner rather than later. I've been told weeks to months. I'm going to look for some cotton gloves today. Maybe they'll buffer the pain a bit.
