Not fair!
Back to work for her the next day. She arrived home at 5 to smoke billowing out of their roof and door. Their home was on fire! Her husband who had arrived home earlier had just heard popping sounds and smelt smoke as she drove in. He had been working in his office which is seperate to their home. Their 2 daughters were riding their horses nearby. Together they managed to somehow fight the fire using a garden hose. The fire service were absolutely amazed that my brother-in-law was able to put out the fire himself. They have extensive damage to his workshop and 2 bedrooms. One daughter has lost all her clothes, including school uniforms, and virtually everything else in her room. We are not sure of the damage to the other daughter's room yet.
So a day after my sister helping me we were able to help them back by giving them dinner and beds for the night. Now we have to hope the insurance assessors will be prompt in coming out so the clean-up can begin.
Life is certainly challenging our family this year but we are sticking together and managing these challenges. The most important thing is that we are all still surviving! We were even able to appreciate a few jokes and a laugh or two last night.

Hey Deanne
Yep you definitely have to have those laughs.
It is amazing how testing this year has been for everyone I know. Number 13 was my lucky number but it has well and truly pushed it way out of the ballpark now. I will have to come up with a new lucky number.
It is so good when family and friends can come together and support each other like you guys have. So sorry to hear about your sisters fire but ever so lucky the whole house didn't go up and so lucky your sisters hubby was home to see it and do something about it.
Take care of yourselves and it is great when we all stick together.
Lots of love today, tomorrow and always, Mich xoxoxoxo

Oh Deanne. It must have been horrifying for your sister and her family. What a terrible time this has been for you all. Sounds like you are all very close though and you will pull through. Isn't it amazing how this time can be filled with dreadful lows but you can turn it around to be fantastic highs just by laughing and being together with the ones you love.
Sending you hugs

Thank God the fire wasn't at night when the girls were asleep in their rooms - you are right, it's just not fair. Sending real sympathy to your sister - you are both so lucky to have each other when things are grim. All the best with her insurance company, and hope you are settled into your lovely new home. The insurance assessor has been today and they are going to do the clean-up as well as the repairs. It looks like the whole roof will need to be replaced. My niece is allowed to salvage what she can from her bedroom but they are not to touch the rest. The insurance company has offered to rent them a unit while the repairs are carried out. At the moment they prefer to live in their camper trailer as the girls do not want to leave their horses!
Thanks for your good wishes. We are all just so glad that no one was hurt or worse!

Glad to know that your sister's insurance company came through. I know that insurance can be an awful process. Friends of mine who lost their house in the Black Saturday fires are still having problems.
Thanks for the update Deanne.
