DIEP fails in surgery

Hi everyone, just wondering if any one went in for a Double DIEP surgery and because there were complications had to have a double TRAM instead?
My surgeon is saying if I start with a DIEP I have to be accepting of the possibilty of TRAM flaps.
Plus, he tells me, only 20% of DIEPS are successful???
Help, so confused
Jodie

    Hi @Wishful
I had double DiEP flap surgery and did a lot of research before I went ahead with it.
There is a private group on here you should ask to join - Choosing breast reconstruction that has lots of stories and photos of the various types of reconstruction.
My plastic surgeon who was very experienced in this type of surgery told me not everyone is suitable for DiEP and I had to have an abdominal scan to check out blood vessels.
i also needed to have the right amount of tummy fat .
I had my surgery in the private system at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney and even though I was in a private health fund my out of pockets were steep.
My plastic surgeon also operates in the public hospital but the waiting times are long and there is no guarantee of who would do the  surgery.
Tram was never suggested to me.
