Questions and statements said to me and my thoughts in brackets after. I know I should probably just say them but my father in law died from cancer less than a year ago and family members are still hurting so I answer questions accordingly (not to how I think).
You're so strong (if only you knew)
I don't know how you do it (I didn't know I had a choice)
You're an inspiration (what? You want cancer too?)
I love how you can smile (it is a grimace)
How has your week been (where do I start)
How did the treatment go this week (fine if you like needles, nausea and headaches)
How much longer (lifetime)
What happens next (I smack you in the head)
You look really well (uh huh, right)
How are the side effects (thriving)
You look a bit tired today (really? I wonder why)

My Kimberley manners want to use the thoughts in brackets, however I will use the 'nice girl' manners my mother insisted on!

Oh that is so true and yesterday I was hurting like blazes and a neighbour that I ran into in the street said to me "you look good" to which I replied it must be the beautiful day we're having bringing out the best in us - as I walked away grimacing with pain. Guess we're all good at hiding it!

Yep, we are all very good at saying what we think they want/expect to hear .....
My whole torso was aching/hurting all of yesterday & last night & I was thinking WTF has caused this? How long do I wait until I do something about it?? ....... I took some Voltaren with dinner & luckily it 'fixed itself' about midnight. I am hoping it doesn't happen again - I felt like I was 95!

So true !!! It is amazing how the world sees us as they think we are/should be, often not really seeing the pain behind the smiles. I guess that is the majority of human nature. I do like your thoughts.
Keep up the humour as that takes us a long way at times.

How come nobody said "You look amazing" to me before I had BC?
Today I responded honestly "I don't feel amazing. I am tired and over it. I have a really sore stomach and my ankles and belly are swollen." The look on their faces was worth the honesty. They didn't know how to escape! Naughty!5 -

As my hair was growing back I wrapped a thin scarf around my head like a headband and my customer said to me that I looked like a real slapper. I choked laughing, she meant flapper but I didn't have the heart to tell her .... or on second thoughts, maybe she meant slapper3
