I'm newly arrived from Qld...have just relocated to Port Melbourne and as of yesterday now newly diagnosed with BC following a routine mammogram. I am told I need to find a local GP to get referrals to the right specialists, have the right advice, best follow-up etc. No idea where to start. HELP!!!
Anyone have any suggestions/experience of a suitable, caring GP in the Port.Melb area? thanks in advance for any advice!

Have a look at the breast surgeons that are at Clividen hospital thats where I went. Have a look at the surgeons operating at Epworth Richmond. Or you may choose to go public. Check the net for breast surgeons and make a choice. I actually chose the hospital where I wanted surgery and looked for a breast surgeon that worked there.

If you want to go public you could take your results to any GP and ask for referral to the Royal Melbourne/Peter Mac (as far as I know they now operate out of the same place for BC). The GP fills in the form & faxes it to the hospital (I watched the reception desk do it) then the hospital contacts you with an appt & you are assigned a team. After I hit the Peter Mac (within 48 hrs of the fax!!) I didn't really need a GP until I finished treatment. I found the Peter Mac excellent.0

@whatanuisance Hey!! I live in Melbourne not quite where you are. The GP wont matter so much as any can do referrals, there are lots of places you could go. Ok So you need a Surgeons referral first of all. Ive been in the system about 11 years. I see Mr Craig Murphy at Freemasons in Victoria Pde, East Melbourne, he's been my surgeon for 6years is amazing! If you require an Oncologist he can refer, he referred me to Dr Richard De Boer and get this!!!! I have met so many ladies even a new neighbour for godsake under current treatment is seeing him. WHAT THE??!!! This is private, but for any treatments you can go public too. Hugs Melinda xo0
