527 TopicsDCIS diagnosis last friday
I found out Friday afternoon that I had DCIS, thought nothing of it till later in the evening when I was doing a bit of research . Totally overwhelmed & unsure what to do now, surgeon is having a team meeting Wednesday & then having a telehealth with me. AtM I’m trying to put together a few questions based on the pathology results I have. I want to be proactive & aggressive in confronting this disease. Any commments or ideas? I have had MRI, needle biopsy, ultrasounds, & then excision. This was all following my sister diagnosis of invasive lobular breast cancer recently. I had no symptoms prior & a negative mammogram last November .139Views

Radiotherapy
Hello everyone, l am going through my first radiotherapy this week and l was wondering can l take a NSAD prior to my treatment? I have bursitis on my shoulders and, during my mapping l found it so painful trying to lift my arms. I was thinking of neurofen. I would be grateful for any feedback. 🌸88Views

Discussion about surgery with Surgeon
Hi all, I have been diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and I have my first meeting with the surgeon on Thursday. I know to expect surgery soon but dont know if this will be lumpectomy or mastectomy. I know that this will be one of the things to discuss on Thursday but I am curious if there is a 'choice' - in a sense part of me just wants to be told which option but I wondered if anyone here made a decision one way or the other and how they felt about that? Am also putting this query in the treatment thread as I have not posted before and not sure which is better for this. Thanks for any thoughts.322Views

Implant Reconstruction After Radiation
Hi, this is my first post. I had a lumpectomy with radiation 10 years ago at 44, and I've recently undergone my 2nd lumpectomy on the same side due to the return of this hormone ER and PR+ BC. Due to having my lifetime exposure of RADS on my left breast 10 years ago, my option is mastectomy. I'm battling with my options (of which I'm blessed to have) and tossing between a double mastectomy with reconstruction using first tissue expanders and later implants, or going flat on my left side. My right breast is healthy. I only have enough fat for one very small breast, about half the size of my healthy breast. My main concern is having implants after radiation. The aspect of capsular contracture, skin or nipple death has thrown me for a sixer, and I would love to hear from you beautiful survivors about your stories of reconstruction after radiation. I have a wonderful breast surgeon who I have been blessed to have 2nd time around. She highly recommended the PC who has been transparent in the risks. Stories?130Views

Feeling angry
I have recently been diagnosed and had a lumpectomy last Thursday. I’m feel fine not overly sore but tired. Mine was picked up on a mammograms so early and I’m very grateful and know how lucky I am. I’m ok with diagnosis 1 in 7 my turn. The issue is I’ve been through so much recently and I’m finding myself angry. Well the last 2 days. 2 knee replacements, fibromyalgia, depression, late adhd diagnosis at 62, mum with dementia I’ve had to put into care, I sold her house without her knowing which is heart breaking - no help from siblings and that just this year. Lol. I had a breakdown a few years ago through work, got divorced, my dog died and I burnt my nachos the other day. A bit of light relief. There is more but that will do. I’m exhausted keeping a lid on everything. I’ve spoken to my psychologist who suggested Emdr. I’m by myself and just so angry. My kids have their own lives and basically my safe place is my home (with a massive mortgage) and my dogs. I had started a wonderful new business but have had to put that on hold until I find out what happens next. Which is next Monday. This is not a why me post it’s a is it normal to be angry. Not all the time but it’s scathing and my dogs have heard some words that I have never mentioned before. I’m not really good at asking for help. And was disappointed with the support I received with my knee replacements so reluctant to go through that rejection again. I think maybe it’s the lack of control, not knowing where we go from here. Again I know how lucky I am and whatever treatment (looks like radiation and hormone therapy and possibly another op and chemo if it’s travelled) I will gladly do and be thankful. I guess I’m just bewildered and have no idea what’s normal and whats not. And if I’ve honest I’m teary too. Ok I feel lonely and unsupported as well.204Views

Mental health and new diagnosis.
Hi all, been struggling really bad finding out i have cancer in my right breast early diagnosis. I dont know what sort as i cant cope with the details of it all. I have seen the doctors and waiting MRI appointment and surgery date. I am really struggling with the anxiety and the moving forward bit. I suffer with anxiety and depression quite badly. I was given the option of just having the two lumps removed or the whole breast. I cant decide which option will help me move forward better. So firstly is there any mental health accept to this organisation? I only have my hubby to rely on who is also classed as my career. I am unsure which option to go with as my mental health plays a big part in my descion. I need to make a descion that i can be happy with and wont make my anxiety worse. Unsure of who to talk to or where to go for help.199Views

Radiation skin changes: dimpling
Hi all, I finished radiation back in December (whole breast, 3 weeks, following lumpectomy). My skin has calmed down nicely, darker colour is fading, nipple almost matches the other. However 2 days ago I noticed a large dimple only visible when I lift my arm, in the lower part of my boob (my original scar is closer to top). I’m very aware that this can be a symptom of a tumour which is freaking me out but can also be just be skin changes following radio. Would love some reassurance from others who have perhaps had a similar dimple post radio that was just skin changes and nothing sinister. Thanks in advance, from a chronic worrier!119Views

Length of treatment 1 or 3 wks?
Hello, I had my initial appointment yesterday with my radiation oncologist and know I have to decide if I want my treatment to be over 1 week or 3 weeks? I had surgery 2 weeks ago -Early breast cancer, it was small 10mm and hasn’t spread to lymph nodes. From what I understood the 1 week treatment is higher dose and is equivalent to the 3 weeks, so am I crazy not to do that? Chance of stronger side effects, but at least it’s over with faster… this is all so overwhelming! I can’t really find much information about doing the 1 week. Thanks446Views

67 Male Metastatic Breast Cancer
Good Morning My 67 year old dad was diagnosed at the end of February with Her2 negative breast cancer. He had a mastectomy of the left breast and sentinel lymph nodes removal in March. A week later he had a second surgery to do axilla node removal as 3 of the 5 nodes removed were positive for cancer from the first surgery. The second surgery removed a further 17 nodes all were negative. He had a PET CT scan just before first surgery which came back all clear except for some haemangioma which was not mentioned to us at the time. He was classed as a 2B stage and referred for chemo, radiation and hormone therapy. Things looked positive. At the first appointment with the medical oncologist she booked dad in for chemo, but also mentioned that the PET scan he had done previously showed an area in the T 1 of his spine that should be investigated further as it could be a possible metastasis or a haemangioma. No idea why the breast surgeon missed that in the PET report. Dad did a MRI which unfortunately showed possible metastasis in his T1, T6, T9 and L1. He then had a bone scan which showed same results along with 2 small spots on his ribs. Oncologist has canceled chemotherapy and radiation before it’s even started and put dad on tamoxifen and abemaciclib. He will start denosumab bone injections in about 2 months as he had to pull 2 teeth out to be able to get dental clearance for them. He did a bone biopsy of his L1 yesterday even though oncologist was adamant he didn’t need to do it as the metastasis is confirmed with the scans. Results are pending. His bloodwork is ‘normal’. No radiation has been recommended for now as dad has no pain. The last 2 months has been an emotional rollercoaster. There is very little information out there on male breast cancer. We’re unsure why the PET scan was cleared by the breast surgeon but it turns out there is actually metastatic disease on his spine and ribs. We’re not sure the wait and see approach is ok with us. Do most metastatic breast cancer patients receive chemo and radiation or just hormone blocking therapy. Also not happy bone injections are delayed for 2 months but nothing is replacing it for now. We’re tempted to see another oncologist for a second opinion on treatment. What are your thoughts on dad’s situation?167Views
