Mastectomy and reconstruction - Replacing ruptured implants
I had a breast cancer diagnosis in 2012 which led to bilateral mastectomies and reconstruction with micro-textured silicone implants. One of the implants ruptured about 18 months ago. Since then I have noted that the shape and feel of the implant has changed. There are lumps and small hardened bumps which would be…

Where it all started
In February I had weight loss surgery and in may I turned 50 and with that came the mammogram reminder. About 6 weeks ago and with a 40kg weightloss I was diagnosed with a stage1, 1cm malignant lump. It hit me like a tonne of bricks. If it wasnt for my weightloss they may never have found it. I got my referral to see the…

What a time to find out you're not covered by HBF! And can I save my nipple?
I was diagnosed just over a week ago. Amid all the shock, at least in the back of my mind I thought, at least I'm covered with HBF. It was only when I was sitting in the office at the private hospital that the receptionist told me my HBF card wasn't working and I called them and they told me they cancelled my policy in May…

Double Mastectomy & Reconstruction Support
Hi everyone, I saw my breast surgeon today for my post lumpectomy follow up appointment. There was much more DCIS found as suspected including in all 3 margins plus some other suspicious looking bits. I had decided already that after my lumpectomy I would be having a double mastectomy and reconstruction because the thought…

Decision - Breast conserving lumpectomy OR Mastectomy with Immediate DIEP. Any words of wisdom?
Hello, I have just finished chemo which has made 2 tumours undetectable on follow up mammogram and ultrasound - YEAH and the third has reduced by a third. Cancer is only in right breast. I am trying to decide between a lumpectomy reduction ( I'd go from DD to small C)with the left made to match or mastectomy with immediate…

Diep reconstruction
My surgeon has recommended (diep) this for me. I’m not sure about this and the out of pocket price is staggering! Between $10,00 and $20,000 that’s even with top hospital coverage !! Does anyone know if this type of reconstruction is done as a public patient? If so and where in Sydney. Thanks in advance.

Swelling in the reconstructed breast
Hi all, this is my first post. September 2017 I was diagnosed with 6cm tumour with node involvement - not visible on ultrasound or mammogram. May 2018 I had a skin sparing mastectomy ‘L’ breast with a spacer. In July 2018 I had the reconstruction done. Since then I have been just getting on with life. This included taking…
