THERMAL DISCOMFORT

First time on line, so hello to everyone.
I've had breast cancer diagnosed over last Christmas, had lumpectomy with removal of four lymp nodes, I was lucky Stage two, just completed radiation treatment. Half way through I became really hot. I would wipe the sweat of my forehead.
I'm experiencing extreme thermal discomfort, it's like I'm standing next to a bonfire with searing heat oozing out of my body equally throughout the body, then a couple of minutes later I'm cold. Like sunstroke, when the fan blows over you. So I'm not sleeping as the bedsheet is too cold then I put the blanket over me then have to remove it.
The experts say it is not to do with the radiation. I don't believe it, has anyone else experienced this and will it go away and what can I do?

- Hi Myjourney see gp to have blood test for determining estrogen levels for start of menopause..ensure your calcium and vitamin d are checked as well
For many of us there is no option but to take AI therapy ...sides effect minor for me so going well. Cheers b - @Myjourney I was on tamoxifen for 4yrs but had a recurrence 2015. So did chemo then put on Arimidex. Thing is since treatment i have osteoporosis. Eye sight in 1 eye has deteriorated and they dont know in 7 months and recent bloods showed high liver enzyme and high cholesterol hmmmm As Nikki pointed out to me...ALL of these things are side effects of Tamoxifen and Arimidex.
- Osteoporosis is a risk. ..a lot of the risk of the aramatose inhibitors are the same risks women face going through menopause. Each sort may have slightly different risks so you woukd have to see dependent on which they prescribe. Then you need to weigh up the risk of side effects against recurrence. There is a tool called Predict ...which you can pkug in info and it shows 5 and 10 year differences dependent on parh results and treatment. It is a bit broad but helps a bit in relooking at what the speciakist have said already.
If you want to tag someone directly regarding a question just do an @ prior there user name ...like @Myjourney - I'm sorry to hear it Mel, I'm assuming as you weren't in menopause that's why you didn't get the side effects from Tamoxifen, how come you changed to Arimedex.
- When i was on Tamoxifen in 2011 i was pre menopausal but i had no side effects or hot flushes. Now on Arimidex got the lot but like Nikki somedays are worse than others. Chemo threw me into menopause so I was getting them before I started meds. I find hard the sleep disturbance, doona on and off tossing its ridiculous! You do learn to live with it as Nikki said but i haven't found anything that alters it. X Melinda

- Wow that's interesting about the panadol osteo, but I might go for a few days without it, then I feel I need some relief, I don't do alcohol caffeine or spicy food. And I don't smoke. I hear not many people suffer with joint aches and pain, but mine is so severe. I really appreciate your help. What are the bad side effects of these hormone blockers.
- There are loads of potential side effects with Tamoxifen - but they don't happen to everyone (headaches, bone aches, bone soreness, fuzzy thinking, vision impairment, blood clots, uterine issues/uterine cancer etc etc). I basically get hot flushes (I was peri-menopausal pre BC diagnosis), some tiredness...
- Ah you see, if I read your post correctly, since you started taking Tamoxifen you've had these menopausal symptoms, (have a look at my hormone blocker post), I already have severe menopausal symptoms from stopping HRT, and I can't imagine how much worse if I start taking Tamoxifen. What else happens on Tamoxifen?
