TC Chemotherapy
Had Round 3 of TC chemo on Monday morning. Bone aches arrived like clockwork on Thursday night, but now on Friday, I seem to have lower back pain and hip pain for the first time as well. Is this normal? I have been walking 1.5 - 2 kms each day this week.
I am finding the variety, and variance, of side effects, to be weird. For example, Round 1, a little nausea, Round 2, a lot, Round 3, none so far.

- kmakmMember@Beaglemum You simply won't get all the side effects! Predictive worry is a waste of time so your instincts on that are 100%. However there's no harm in being prepared so definitely get some things in so you're not caught short. Something to stop your bowels and something to start them is a good idea!
@"Kiwi Angel" worked all the way through TC, and I walked everyday. You won't be incapacitated. I didn't vomit once, and while I had trouble with my hands, neither @Finch or @"Kiwi Angel" did. We're all different.
I'd leave your nails on for now and speak to the chemo nurses about what they're experience is on this front.
For most of us, chemo is grotty but doable. While looking sick is confronting and a shock, you will get used to it and be the recipient of great kindness and love as a result. When all else fails, keep your eyes on the prize, a cancer free life, and be proud of yourself for doing something hard to hopefully achieve the best for your future. An extra bug bear hug lovely! K xox - BeaglemumMemberHi @kmakm thank you for pointing me to this thread, I have read it from back to front and and back again, can't believe how much crap all you have had to endure and am now a little bit more scared that I'm going to have all the side effects.
I know thats an irrational thought and reading it won't make it happen, I am looking at my nails - should i have my acrylics removed - were done before i knew chemo was starting. Thinking I need to stock up with claratyne and pineapple and laxatives, gastrostop and whatever else it will take, maybe building a bomb shelter and hiding out in there till its all over.
Thet said I am all good at the moment - I've been awake since around 4am, should of at least walked the dogs by now instead of obsessing on things I have no control over. I am going to get a grip and go out into the sunshine grab four (yes four) dog leads and talk a nice long walk with a big smile on my face - because I can!
Big Hugs are what you need some days so thanks for that x - kmakmMemberHi @Beaglemum. You might like to check out this thread. I'm happy to answer any TC questions if I can. Big hug lovely, K xox
- kmakmMember@Sarnicad Yep, the thought of having to have chemotherapy again fills me with horror. But I would. I found out last week that I'm at an elevated risk for colorectal cancers and thyroid cancer. Hopefully I'll never have cancer again, but I have to be prepared that I might.
- SarnicadMember@kmakm in all of this I think that is my biggest fear - not that it doesn’t work cause it is but that it happens again and I have to do all this crap all over again
- kmakmMemberAwful @Sarnicad. Better bloody work...
- SarnicadMember@kmakm When I got my chemo rash on my hands it started bright red and settled to brown pigment. Looks lovely NOT. Upside it matches my brown under boob from radiation and the brown semi circles on my nails Got to love treatment
- kmakmMemberI had my annual mole check today (yes, I'm still mole ;) ). When I had it last year I'd just had my mammogram and hadn't received the call back yet. So when he asked me how my year had been I filled him in.
When he was examining my face he observed the pigmentation that had emerged during my second pregnancy had got darker. I asked why and he said chemotherapy can cause or darken pigmentation if you are someone who has skin that's susceptible to it. Which I do. Which would also explain the dark markings that appeared along one of my lollipop scars in my recon.
Anyway, I asked if there was anything I could do about it. Yes, I can bleach it. It will take months and require sunscreen on my face every morning but I pretty much do that anyway. It's most pronounced on my forehead and now that I'm not wearing a fringe anymore I thought I'd give it a go. He's given me a prescription which I have to take to a compounding chemist.
Anyone else ever experienced this?
