Nail Damage from AC Chemo?

Hi All

Have just finished 3 months of AC and nail on small toe has just lifted off.  Took nail varnish off and both big toe nails are half black.  Am on Paclitaxel next and this is listed as a side effect of taxanes but wasn't on AC list.  Anyone else lose nails on AC?

Thanks

  • Hi, I am only about to start AC on the 16th but the info sheet I was given on AC it stated nails will suffer. Warned about ddisolouration, breaking, lifting or even falling off so AC definitely does affect them :(

My fingernails and toenails delaminated after docetaxel, however have now all grown back to normal. I'm taking a hair, skin and nails supplement and this seems to be helping my hair growth as well.

    Hope this helps, Trace ????????

  • My nails seem more brittle but I keep them short. I have though in the past got black big toenails from walking a lot and pressure on the toe which caused bleeding under the nail. I guess our platelets can get low and increase bleeding risk so perhaps it is that. Our toenails grow slower and I have had my small one just lift off only to find another growing up underneath...not related to chemo at all. I have 1 more cycle if AC to go. Kath x

  • Six weeks post Docetaxel and Cyclophosphamide and most all of my finger and toenails are half white. Any leverage whatsoever makes the white extend further. They are becoming flexible but still very much held on down the base. Doc said just keep them clean and short and it might take months for the nail beds to recover. Not something I was expecting. Only two things I coveted was my lovey hair and nails and now it looks like I won't have either for 6mths to a year. Not feeling especially sexy atm.
