Lymphedema
Has anyone purchased a lymphedema bra? I"ve been reading about them and wondering if they are any good. They retail for $180 so would like to know all about them before i get one for myself.TIA

- Kari_2015MemberHi there, I got mine from Dickorey Dock in Melbourne (used it as an excuse for a holiday!). The ladies were great in there and I wouldn't be surprised if you could talk to them to work out how to measure and order over the phone.
It helped me immensely to wear one every day, plus the lymp massage and once I started exercising consistently, I have found I don't have to wear one every day.
It is a real nuisance isn't it, especially when it starts to feel a bit sore - reminding me that I haven't done any exercise! - AfraserMemberI wear a pressure garment, but do exercise my arm every day and also massage it. I found that a daily routine, it doesn't take long, helps keep my arm stable and relatively normal.
- TeigraMemberI'm in Melbourne,. Keep positive and stay active !!
- dmcookMemberThat is Excellent for you Teigra, thank you so much for your input.Which city are you in please,Im in Brisbane abd being going threw Royal Hospital. But they dont seem to be able to help me apart from measuring my arm each time I go in and yes giving me a lovely massage but after that nothing its still the same :(
- TeigraMemberI'm in the public system and I visited a lympodema specialist recommended by the physio as I was concerned with excessive cording following mastectomy . First appt she took measurement, massage etc all ok 12 months later I had dislocated and fracture my shoulder on my good side but due to this injury felt tingling & swelling in the BC arm so went back to my specialist for another 4 visit - all good now nipped lymphodema in the bud
- AnonymousNot applicableI had laser and massage at a lymphoedema clinic. There are places that specialise in it. I had back to back appointments, from really quite soon after my mastectomy for the laser treatment. They also taught me how to do the massage and I did it every day. I don't have any treatment at all now as my arm is much better.
It's good to start managing it early. I wore a glove sometimes, but don't like wearing it, so just wear it when I travel now. I also get them to write on my arm when I have surgery. I know some people wear bracelets. I usually let the theatre staff know. Am up to surgery 7, so becoming quite the expert lol. - dmcookMemberThats very interesting to know @primek,Ive never heard of laser before.Im going to try the small pillow and see if that helps for me also thank you for that. I try not to but i wake in the morning and ive slept on the lymphedema side and im all numb down that side :(
- primekMemberI had laser mainly to armpit and arm and it seemed to solve the breast problem also. Weirdly once I'd finished chemo and had thie laser the problem only recurs on long trips (as arm down...I now prop a small pillow underneath elbow to lift my arm outward and it did seems to help. I hope the laser helps. I noticed improvement after the 1st session. 3 in total was done.
- Cowgirl1MemberThanks ladies, I haven't been on the site for a while I am getting quiet frustrated as verything you look up for lymphoedema is for arms or legs very little to do with breast. I have it in mine and have lymphatic massage which is great and I have a lovely pink band which never goes away now. I am getting more fibrosis in my breast and I wear mobiderm in my bra which does help a bit. I am now going to look at having lazer treatment which I hope will break this up a bit and with massage will work, still trying to get someone to come and discuss and show compression garments, so bloody frustrating !!! May be I should become a rep as we don't have any one in SA it comes from VIC so I have been told.
- dmcookMemberoh no sorry to hear that too but thank you very much for your help :)
