Help insomnia

Hi

How have people dealt with insomnia? I had been sleeping well but for past week I have only been getting 2-3 hrs a night and I haven't had the energy to go to work. The constant joint pain from menopause isn't helping (I had my ovaries removed at same time as mastectomy TNBC, it has also exacerbated my arthritis).

Unfortunately not getting much advice from GP except to take heavy duty pain killers for joint pain.

TIA

Jodie

  • Hi Jodie

I have been using the Sleep CD by Petrea King it has helped me to get a good nights sleep after what seemed like years of broken sleep since BC

I have epsom salt baths to help with pain in my legs it does relax them. and I use a revitalise foot machine for the circulation you can normally trial them at the chemist.

    Hope this helps

  • Dear Jodie,

It's Lisa from the Policy Team. I am very sorry to hear about the insomnia and pain you have been experiencing. You may have seen this already, but we recently developed a new fact sheet, Sleepless nights: Breast cancer and sleep, which provides a range of strategies and tips that may be helpful.

The fact sheet also provides information about what to do if the strategies and tips aren’t helping.

You can download the fact sheet here, or call our Member Services Team on 1800 500 258 to order a free copy.

    Warm regards,
    Lisa

  • Couple of things I have done which doesn't guarantee sleep all of the time but does help.

Take vitamin D especially during winter when we are rugged up and out of the sun. It will help your body process calcium which is good for your bones.

I bought myself a top of the range mattress topper and its been divine to sleep on. Very few sore hip nights now. If its the dreaded bone aches, I do a bit of stretching in bed and if its still bad I get up for some Panadol.

  • Hi!  I tend to get out of bed and go for a walk around the house for a few minutes to help with the aching legs and joint pain.  I was told to take Panadol osteo, does it work, well I think so!  It is about finding a trigger to break the constant annoying discomfort.  The walk works for me!  Sometimes wake like I haven't had any sleep but I can put that down to the broken sleep.

    Take care from Christine xx
