First AC chemo yesterday
I had my first chemo session yesterday. I was doing ok, had lunch and had a nap a few hours later. I wake up from the nap a little hungry and while waiting for food I started feeling a bit funny/nauseous so I took one of the anti nausea pill I got prescribed and.. it did absolutely nothing! I felt absolutely shit and nauseated for hours and was stuck between bed and bathroom, but I couldn’t vomit anything nor put anything in my stomach. For three times the nausea sensation would also work up until I sneezed loudly? (This was odd as sneezing alleviated me for a couple of minutes before going back to feeling shit).
Now, I slept fairly well and a part for a little headache I think I am doing ok, but I am still in bed wondering whether I should get up and have breakfast, wait a little, take the anti nausea pill now before I eat or can the anti nausea pill be the reason I was more unwell?
I want to see how I go today and if I can pin point what went wrong before contacting the chemo nurses with the same nonsensical rant.. but also don’t want to be sick again today or ever 🤦🏼♀️😂
any suggestions from the gorgeous women in this group?
I also had just a few tiny red spots (petechiae) pop up around my chest and upper arms, I am not too concerned but glad for any comments (I will certainly raise it with the nurses anyway) as personal experience could definitely help prepare for the nurses vague answer.

- FernwehMemberThank you, @Nay64! I haven’t thought about them giving me fluids.. I will definitely ask this morning! Next treatment is also in the afternoon (rather than morning like the first one) which scares me a little as being sick at night is even worse I think.. will also try to have all my treatments in the morning moving forward!
I hope the next rounds go smoother for you too 💫 - Nay64MemberHi @Fernweh
You sounds exactly like I felt for my first round last fortnight. Definitely talk to your oncologist about the meds not working for you as there are other ones that they can give you. I’ve been given wafers for this next round as the pills just weren’t cutting it for me either. I ended up going up to ED about three hours after treatment and was given fluids and meds through the IV which finally gave me some relief. Don’t be scared to ask for fluids to replenish you when you see the nurses tomorrow. All the best for your next round. I hope it goes a little smoother for you. - FernwehMemberThank you @Mazbeth. 🌸
I will see the nurses tomorrow so I will have a chat with them, but regardless of taking the anti nausea pills I still feel absolutely horrible. My mastectomy scars have flared up, my jaw is super tight, my chest area is super tight too (muscle/nerve wise) and I am definitely struggling to put enough food and water in me.. I am exhausted and have a constant headache. I was expecting this not to be nice, but so far has been even worst.. going on for too many days in my opinion ahah
I know I am whingeing but dang! :( - MazbethMemberHi @Fernweh - I definitely had crappy days post A/C but one thing the nurses were really emphatic about with me was to take the anti nausea pills regardless of how I was feeling for the first 3 days - that I was not to wait until I ‘felt’ the nausea. They told me that once it starts, it’s hard to pull it back. I was also on steroids for the first 3 days - they tapered off so over the 3 days I took less, by day 4 after the infusion I had stopped them and I was on the up and up again. I found when I had chemo after lunch Wednesday, I was on the couch until Friday morning - Thursday was my tough day so I really needed the meds - never physically sick, just felt blah. Even if I felt ok on the Friday, I still took the pills. Hang in there, there is no denying how shitty it can be, but take the meds and if you can, rest as much as you can in the first couple of days. I also went for a very slow walk each day just to get moving and tried to drink a lot of water to flush my system. When I say slow walk, I mean super slow. You will get to know your good days and hopefully you will have plenty of them where you can do things. I just knew the Thursday the day after was couch day and then I was ok for the next 10-12 days 🌸
- FernwehMemberThank you @Keeping_positive1 💫
I did take the two steroids tablets as directed and yesterday I also took the three nausea pills morning lunch and evening too regardless of any symptoms.. I still struggled to eat much and slept most of the day, but did much better than the previous two days in terms of nausea. I am feeling pretty ok this morning a part from an annoying headache which is probably due to a lack of fluid.. thank you for your suggestions, they are invaluable. 🌸
Thankfully next round is not for another 10 days. - Hi Fern, I can remember just taking the steroid tablets I was given, and I didn't suffer nausea, nor did I vomit while I was going through AC chemo. I did however after each session in the evening have bad stomach cramps, which I likened to terrible "period pains" and I took myself to bed and slept it off. AC isn't pleasant, but I found mostly if I kept my bowels moving regularly I got through it well enough.
Take it easy on yourself and if you are tired then rest when you can. Also report anything to the nurses that is worrying you. I never waited to see if I needed the tablets, but I just took them as directed before anything adverse happened.
We are here to support you as best we can, and share our own experiences also. :) xx - jennyssMemberDear @Fernweh,
Lucky me; I had very little nausea when I had chemo a few years ago, so I can only say
from jennyss in Western NSW - FernwehMemberThank you @Cath62. I will definitely talk to the nurses this Friday when I get the stitches on my port removed and my oncologist at the next session.
Will take the three nausea pills today regardless and see how I go.. 🤞🏼Always greatful for your support 🌸 I hope you are doing well 💫 - Cath62Member@Fernweh sometimes it is better to take the antinausea pills for the first couple days after treatment regardless so the nausea doesn't come along. My oncologist prescribed them as something I had to take for a couple days and then nothing till the next treatment. Perhaps talk to your oncologist as well.
- FernwehMemberThank you @Brenda5 I have bought some ginger ale and will give it a go.. I took no nausea medication yesterday but struggled to eat much.. had a crystallised ginger in mu hand for 2 hours trying to eat some, but that was also a struggle. Caved in this morning and took a nausea pill 🤞🏼
