This Christmas I will be.......
Hi everyone,
This time last year I asked you all to post some Xmas tips and we put some of these tips in an article and sent it to women newly diagnosed with a link to the online conversation
https://external2.createsend.com/campaigns/reports/viewCampaign.aspx?d=d&c=96F7DB74A54F2F70&ID=87D90CE98EBF5B33&temp=False&tx=0
We would like to do the same this year. I was touched last year by some of the conversations around how Christmas now had a different meaning for some of you and the decisions you made about what is important now for you at Xmas time. I therefore thought we could do something around what you'll be doing this Xmas - what is now important to you, do you now do things differently, have certain traditions, activites become more important, are there things you ve decided not to do?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

- LocksleyMemberDo you have a photo of your cakes. Are they little individual ones. Fruit is expensive
- patdugMemberAfter a year long treatment regime for BC I thought I wouldn't do my usual and annual baking of Christmas Cakes ...was feeling a bit (a lot) tired etc ..like some of us here....
- I give the cakes as presents to people (as everyone has a lot of everything these days!) and certain people know they are on my Xmas list! Needless to say I felt (within myself) a lot of pressure to keep delivering them ( I also baked through COVID and chemo so I would HAVE to focus on something other than myself and the terrible side-effects)....
And I actually, in regard to the Xmas baking ritual, said to my husband that I wasn't feeling motivated...but one incredible day recently the enthusiasm returned and with a new found resource of energy I ventured into Coles etc and bought ingredients ! Who knew I thought - there is still a bit of the old girl in me! Anyway I baked 26 of the darlings and am now distributing them...this is the onerous part of the process as there is SO much wrapping etc...everyone can relate I am sure!
The point of all this is that I have found that when giving the cake to someone there is a spreading/imparting/transference of joy and love on some level....and I find that part therapeutic/helpful in some way ...and I don't mean to sound selfish or too deep.
I also felt that when I read the Christmas funnies posted on this network recently and those from previous years...the sentiments expressed or the hilarity of the joke just lifts my mood for a bit ..and so exponentially I started to feel optimistic going forward perhaps.....this may be a justification on my part for immersing myself in baking and reading activity ! LOL!
I think this festive time brings up a lot of stuff for us all and we are all in various stages of this journey...but distracting ourselves may have benefits...anyone else do mind tricks (exercise, hobbies, anything) to get through? I find I need more and more discipline to keep my mind on a positive plateau. Family get togethers can help (sometimes). I note for some that being in touch with nature helps...being on the water, tracking up the mountains , creative pursuits etc. Anyway didn't expect my post to go in this direction (sorry for the ramble!) ...Was so interested in reading the individual approaches to Xmas, belief systems etc . Everyone here is so supportive and thank you to the wise people here who helped explain some trickier parts of treatment in ways doctors don't - and for all the tips..so invaluable!!
Merry Christmas everyone xxxx - BlondyMember@arpie. There have been some very interesting ones over the years, nudge nudge wink wink
- arpieMemberGO @Blondy! Would love to be a fly on the wall wth you and His Hotness opening Chrissie pressies!! ;)
ENJOY! - BlondyMemberFABULOUS DARLING.
I love Chrissie, always have, always will. Having married into a large family who are crazy Christmas ravers, I'm in my element. After 3 husbands who always viewed Christmas as Bah humbug, I now have a Bad Boy who loves giving presents and is like a kid getting them. After lunch we retire haha up to the lounge where a zillion presents await. Then my sister in law and her cousin pass hand out everyone's presents, and then there is this unholy eruption of paper flying, ooohs and aaaaas, thank yous galore, and on it goes. FABULOUS DARLING - FLCloverMember@arpie 😂
When we were at uni, my sister’s then boyfriend had to separate us during a fight..👀😆. And it didn’t stop there. When my mum found out about our latest fight last year (all 3 sisters this time) she pulled at her hair and screamed at us ‘You fought when you were little and still fighting!! What’s wrong with you??’ I said I don’t know, you raised us 🤷🏼♀️😄. So we’re having a break from each other now. It’s been very peaceful 😄 - AllyJayMemberWell I shall be making my annual trifles. One for the family get together, and one for our fridge. I put some sherry in the family one, a tad more sherry in our one, then get on with polishing off the rest of the sherry all by myself. After that, I don't give two tosses about the whole kerfuffle.
- arpieMemberI’m with you @Zoffiel .... my never having had kids probably contributes as many do it ‘just for the kids’ ....
haha glad I am not alone @FLClover!! Her hubby was amazed first time it happened. I hadn’t said a thing! Apparently it was the way I looked at her!! LOL.
Hopefully this year will be better!! ( I really think it is because I play uke better than her!!) Bwhahaha. And that will never change!! Haha ;) - ZoffielMemberCrap. The Christmas thing again? Already?
2020 has given me quite an insight into what I enjoy and what I don't, and what I will tolerate for the common good.
Christmas can bugger off.
If I never see a piece of tinsel and monstrous commercial bastardry again, it will be too soon.
Each to their own - FLCloverMemberThanks @arpie 😊. Me and one of my sisters have a similar relationship; yelling and screaming at each other after spending a couple days together 😆🤷🏼♀️.
Hope everyone’s Xmas is safe above all else ♥️
