This Christmas I will be.......
Hi everyone,
This time last year I asked you all to post some Xmas tips and we put some of these tips in an article and sent it to women newly diagnosed with a link to the online conversation
https://external2.createsend.com/campaigns/reports/viewCampaign.aspx?d=d&c=96F7DB74A54F2F70&ID=87D90CE98EBF5B33&temp=False&tx=0
We would like to do the same this year. I was touched last year by some of the conversations around how Christmas now had a different meaning for some of you and the decisions you made about what is important now for you at Xmas time. I therefore thought we could do something around what you'll be doing this Xmas - what is now important to you, do you now do things differently, have certain traditions, activites become more important, are there things you ve decided not to do?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

- RaichMemberThis is such a lovely thread!I had a wobbly moment a couple of weeks ago when the boys and I were putting the tree up; realising what a different place Iβm in compared to last Christmas.Usually we head down to Perth on Boxing Day to see all our family. But this year, after my whirlwind 3 months of BC upheaval, which included many trips to and stays in hospital in Perth I have demanded we stay home this year.Iβm so grateful for my health, my body recovering and my strength returning.Iβm grateful that I found my lump, took myself to the doctor and was brave enough to go for my mammogram.Iβm grateful my surgeon and her team looked after me so well.
Iβm grateful the cancer had not spread beyond my breast and the only post-operative treatment I require is 10 years of Tamoxifen.
Iβm grateful for my sense of humour which has helped me and is still helping me through all the terrifying and shitty moments.Iβm grateful for the incredible support that has been made available to me, not only medically but also groups like this where I have found reassurance, understanding and kindness.
Iβm looking forward to spending time with my husband and boys, stuffing my face with good food on Christmas Day. Weβve planned our meal and already made a practice dessert!
Xxxx lots of love to you all - FLCloverMemberThey look really delish @patdug ππ»ππ
- patdugMemberThanks Arpie...It was a HUGE effort this year...not sure (sometimes!) why I did all that work!! Anyway, peole enjoy them and that is the main thing.. :) :) xx
- arpieMemberVery Nice @patdug - They look very similar to how I usually make mine, including the almonds! ... but I got lazy this year! ;)
- patdugMemberYes I do. here they are Locksley et al - just two of them though! I buy the fruit in bulk - it's my annual thing I do xx
- FLCloverMemberYes I agree @Afraser, delicious but waaaay too sweet! Most of my Aussie friends canβt handle it. These days I barely can too, which is a good thing as sugar is basically poison π. Fresh is best ππ», just find a way to keep those buggers away! π¦π

I know the dish, but too sweet for me. I have two fig trees and like them best straight off the tree! Nearly all the recipes for preserving figs use kilos of sugar! I am going to try drying my own next season, as itβs so short and itβs a bit of a race between me and the birds! - FLCloverMemberFantastic @patdug, Iβm so happy you found your inspiration and motivation again! Iβm sure your friends and family will find as much joy in eating them as you did in baking them π.I found my joy in eating again π. And pot plants π»πΈππΏπ±π₯°
- FLCloverMember@Afraser same, I love fig sweets, as well as dates and prunes ππ.Have you tried figs in syrup? Itβs this Eastern European delicacy, they take whole fruit and leave it in a syrup made of lots of sugar. Not very healthy π, but best thing Iβve tried. The fig one is my absolute favourite π€€π
- AfraserMemberMy festive preparations are exceedingly limited but I usually make a Christmas cake, possibly the only cake I make all year. I have in the past made miniature ones for staff presents. This year I have made two large cakes! I will share them with family, lots of fruit - I am a fan of figgy fruit cake as well as figgy pudding, plus dates and prunes!
