This Christmas I will be.......
Hi everyone,
This time last year I asked you all to post some Xmas tips and we put some of these tips in an article and sent it to women newly diagnosed with a link to the online conversation

We would like to do the same this year. I was touched last year by some of the conversations around how Christmas now had a different meaning for some of you and the decisions you made about what is important now for you at Xmas time. I therefore thought we could do something around what you'll be doing this Xmas - what is now important to you, do you now do things differently, have certain traditions, activites become more important, are there things you ve decided not to do?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

- arpieMemberSounds YUM!! I had the custard still warm once and it melted the jelly .... it all turned to soup!! :(
- SisterMemberLine the dish with sliced peaches (as many as you can fit in), then cover with slices of jam roll (raspberry jam). Pour orange juice over to soak (for boozy, sherry and oj...or just sherry!) - I use Daily Juice as it tastes better. You want the cake moist but not swimming. Next layer is raspberry jelly - I let it set in the trifle bowl. It does mix quite a bit with the oj and the cake. Then thick custard, almost a blancmange consistency, and not toooo sweet. Before serving, add whipped cream, again sweet, but not too sweet. Top with smashed up Flake (I'm sure their sales go through the roof at Christmas) and strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. I tend not to do the alcoholic version as the kids always hoe into it and it also means that no-one has to worry about getting a dui from the dessert (but it is delish).
- kmakmMemberSame question to you @Sister! What do you put in yours?
- SisterMember@teepee What a lovely idea to have your daughter put it together. She will appreciate it in years to come. My Mum made the best trifle (actually, she would make two for Christmas - one deadly and one alcohol free) but I never helped her make it, although I knew what she put in it. I think I've recreated it now, to the point that I don't even get asked what I'd like to bring to some occasions - I get assigned. That said, we're usually trifled out by Christmas Day so often go with a pav and a pudding.
- kmakmMemberOh @TeePee, timing! All things being equal you might still feel OKish as you'll still be in the stage where the steroids will be keeping you 'up' so to speak. It was day three when I started to come down.
I'm the trifle maker in my family. What do you put in your Christmas trifle? K xox - FlaneuseMember@TeePee You've got more than your share of challenges, then. All the best with chemo and the gluten-free program.
- TeePeeMemberI love Christmas! We go and stay at my aunts (I'm a single Mum with 3 kids and no parents of my own) the night before and between us we do all the cooking, we go all out but love it.
This year will be quite different, I'll be having chemo on Christmas Eve! I start 12 weeks of weekly chemo on 10 December so I'm trying to get organised now! I also got diagnosed as gluten intolerant 4 days before my cancer diagnosis so that will make Christmas trickier too! I am the maker of the trifle so I'm making a gluten free trifle and making all the bits ahead and passing the baton to my 16 year old daughter to put it all together on Christmas Eve! - MjhekeMemberI will be on a plane to NZ on Christmas Day (here’s hoping for a festive flight) to be with my family. My 3 boys (men) will all be together. I love seeing them together, they are such great mates. Our family are very close, we laugh a lot when we are together. I won’t have to do anything-except maybe buy some duty free alcohol-as we arrive just as the food is being put on the table...great forward planning! Ha ha
😉 - RomlaMemberChristmas Eve is my special time listening to Carols by Candlelight.I wait all year to hear Denis Walter sing - hopefully the Holy City - and am a bit of a David Hobson fan too.Yes I like all the traditional carols as well as Bing , Michael and all the modern stuff even though there’s no snow or sleighs.
I am a bit of a schmuck about Christmas - love pudding , mince pies and Christmas cake - all the goodies hard to find during the year as dried fruit is now quite expensive.
Sadly my kids are all past the early morning wake up and prefer money to gifts.Be a while before the grandkids start arriving and the fun begins again.
I guess I like best the “nice” that settles on people around this time of the year just wish some continued it into the coming year. But an not immune that some do it tough at this time of the year.
That said I’ll toddle on the blog to have a chat and see who is around Christmas Day.Hope to catch you then.X - MiraMemberThis Christmas will be my second since I have moved out of my parents and into my own house, and my first with a Christmas tree all of my own (it arrived today, yay!) Last year Mum and Dad came a few days before Christmas and we went to a local park overlooking the beach and had chicken & mango salad in tortilla cups followed by fruit n chocolates. Mum had a broken wrist so I cooked. I traditionally make a Christmas icecream which is vanilla icecream mixed with smashed Xmas pudding, liquors, dried fruits and is served with chocolate sauce and fresh fruits, we had that later.
We haven't decided what we will do yet this year. Probably the same, although they plan on visiting on Christmas day this time. I'm not sure what food I'll make for the picnic lunch, they're getting older so I'd like to make it special. I'm torn between researching Christmas picnic dinners or putting up my very first tree tonight
