"Is this your only option? My friend had a mastectomy and then got cancer in her chest wall and died."

"You look so well - you wouldn't think there's anything wrong with you."
"What sort of pain? I thought with breast cancer there was no pain."
"How long do they say it will take to get over the surgery? A couple of weeks?" (daughter-in-law thinking about babysitting)
"Why do you need to read all that mountain of stuff about breast cancer?" (daughter-in-law again)
"I need to catch up with you before your surgery" (Like, maybe you won't survive it) I don't have either the time, energy or desire to "catch up" with everyone in my circle!
And I've not even had surgery yet.
