Stabilising surgery

Hi, I'm just wondering if any of you lovely ladies that have bony mets( in particular hip/femur) have had surgery to stabilise? I have an ortho appointment tomorrow and that's what we will be discussing.
Kind regards

  • So I have an update, upgraded to a cat 1 - surgery date is the 28th March. But today, my orthopaedic surgeon rang me, after speaking to another orthopaedic dr(who specialises in bone mets &bone cancers) suggested that I have radiation therapy. I was hoping to keep radiation therapy for later. I would prefer to just have the surgery.
    See what tomorrow brings

  • Hope the surgery goes well and you recover quickly.  Best wishes Wendy h67
  • Thanks everyone.
I'm booked in for surgery- currently at cat 2 but that may change when the doctors all get together & discuss it some more.
  • Best wishes for today. I haven't actually seen a orthopaedic specialist as yet. Sometimes I  wonder why as I have so many bone mets , but I guess if another problem arises , my oncologist will refer me. All the best. Wendy
  • Hi Anne94, Just wanted to say good luck with your appointment today. Please let us know how you get on. Hugs. Xx Cath
  • Hi @"wendy h 67", I see the ortho docs every 3 months. I wasn't due to see them again until April but they've brought the appointment ahead.  I asked my oncologist why? And they want to talk about surgery. My mets are in the trochanter, pelvis.  As I'm still working, I think they trying to prevent a pathological fracture. Anyway, I'll find out tomorrow what's the plan.
    Cheers

  • Hi Anne I have bone mets now for 5 years. Most recent area was in the top of the femur an area they call  the Trochanter. My oncologist got an orthopedic specialist to look at the scans and his decision was that the cancer was in dense bone so he felt that a pin to stabilize the leg and hip was not necessary at this time. Thank goodness. So I'm  back on chemo after being on Aromison which was not working for me after 2 years. Hope you have good news. Wendy
